Colchester vs Cambridge Preview

Colchester have yet to pick up maximum points in League Two, but there were clear signs of their ability in midweek as they cruised to a 3-0 home success against Swindon. John McGreal’s side are relatively young, and inconsistencies are part and parcel of their development, but they are a side who are generally stronger in Essex. They won their last two home games of the season last year, and began life with a 1-1 draw against Port Vale. Although that doesn’t look like a brilliant result on paper, it has to be factored in that Vale had one of the best away defences in the division last season, and are incredibly hard to break down. The speculation surrounding the transfer of Kane Vincent Young isn’t helping matters, but the club must concentrate on picking up their first League Two victory of the campaign. They aren’t the kind of side who create copious chances per game, but they are quite effective in the final third, and Luke Norris is a competent enough finisher. Another couple of additions, particularly in the striking department are probably needed before the transfer window shuts.

Colin Calderwood’s Cambridge were tipped to struggle this season, and so far, they’ve shown very few signs of life in the final third. To their credit, they are extremely well-organised, and they make it difficult for the opposition, but they need a little more going forward. The signing of Marc Richards could prove to be a masterstroke with the veteran frontman getting off the mark in the EFL Cup in midweek. The U’s went through on penalties after claiming their third consecutive draw of the campaign. If you want entertainment this season, Cambridge are probably not the side for you, but they are becoming hard to beat. If they do lose games, it is going to be by one or two goal margins, with the George Taft-Greg Taylor partnership working well at present.

Colchester vs Cambridge Betting Tips

Although the visitors are extremely hard to break down, I do think Colchester’s midweek cup success could give them the impetus they need to clinch all three points here. Cambridge are likely to try and nick a goal, and sit on it, and that did work to an extent during the latter half of the season. However, Colchester could get the all important first goal, and that should be enough to see them collect their first victory of the campaign. The hosts are 9/10 with Bet Victor.

This isn’t going to be an end-to-end contest, and seven of Colchester’s last eight home games in all competitions have finished with one of the two sides drawing a blank. Cambridge are struggling for goals, but they also run a tight ship at the back. Both Teams to Score? No is available at 3/4 and looks a decent option.
