Exeter vs Plymouth Prediction & Betting Tips: Plymouth to take something from the Devon derby

League Two betting tips

There’s local pride at stake on Saturday lunchtime as Exeter take on Plymouth at St.James’ Park. Exeter have lost back-to-back games in League Two and Matt Taylor must ensure his side bounce back here. Plymouth were given a helping hand on Tuesday as they eased past Leyton Orient and arrive here in a confident mood. Who will come out on top?

Exeter vs Plymouth Preview – 26/10/2019 League Two

Matty Taylor was incandescent with rage after his side’s defeat at Scunthorpe in midweek. He told the media that ‘people weren’t doing their jobs’ and didn’t hold back from voicing his opinion. The manager was forced to take some responsibility having made five changes from the weekend and following that performance, more alterations are likely to follow here.

Worringly, the Grecians have now conceded seven times in their last two games, although both fixtures have been on the road. They’ll be pleased to get back to home comforts here. At St James’ Park, they’ve been very strong and beat in-form Forest Green here a couple of weeks ago. They possess a 4-2-1 record in front of their own fans and are yet to drawn a blank at this ground.

Plymouth moved up to fourth with a straightforward victory over Leyton Orient in midweek and the Pilgrims continue to pick up result without being outstanding. There’s a general feeling that Ryan Lowe’s men are yet to hit top gear and that they could take things up a notch if required. Their away form is mixed although they are unbeaten since September 14th.

They have some of the most talented players in the division although the likes of Danny Mayor havent’t been quite as effective as many fans had hoped.

More Personnel Changes?

Pierce Sweeney missed out altogether in midweek whilst Randell Williams, Jake Taylor, Lee Martin and surprisingly, Nicky Law were all relegated to the bench. Some bold decisions were made ahead of that game and Matt Taylor will have to decide how to manage his squad ahead of this sold-out clash.

Jayden Richardson was particularly disappointing whilst Nigel Atangana wasn’t able to influence the game in the centre of the park. Ben Seymour managed just a single shot (off target) in 81 minutes of football and some of the more experienced players are likely to return to the line-up here.

Home Comforts for Bowman

I predicted that Ryan Bowman would be one of the top goalscorers in League Two pre-season and whilst that tip looks to have gone awry so far, the striker does have five goals to his name. All five of those strikes have come at St. James’ Park and he could be the man to break through the Plymouth back-line here.

Bowman works extremely hard, although he’s also an instinctive finisher and as the 6/4 favourite in the anytime goalscorer market with Bet365, could be worth keeping an eye on.

The Pilgrims Have Some Steel

Under Ryan Lowe’s jurisdiction last season, Bury were always flimsy on the road and the Scouser appeared to be having similar problems in Devon when his lost three in a row on their travels in mid-September. However, they have become much tougher to beat and they won’t be swept aside easily here. They’ve suffered just a single defeat since September 14th and have beaten Mansfield on the road and taken a point back from the County Ground recently. This game will be hard fought, but the visitors could make the journey home with something to show for their efforts.
