Despite referencing two separate occasions in which the Republic of Ireland have taken a battering, generally speaking at least, their matches are tedious affairs with few goals scored. Fair cases in point are their two friendlies against Turkey and France, which yielded two defeats in which they failed to score. Although Denmark possess talent and some industrious players within their squad, they’re hardly one of Europe’s more attacking sides. I envisage a much tighter game than we witnessed in Dublin last November, and it can hardly fail to be. It’s difficult to gauge players’ interest levels in the Nations League, with a broad consensus suggesting the matches are simply perceived as dressed up friendlies. There’s certainly some credibility in that argument, but it doesn’t change the fact that there is still a game to be contested.

If you’re selecting the Republic of Ireland off the back of anything other than blind faith, I think you’d need your head tested! Martin O’Neill’s side are turgid and uninspiring which has prompted more than a few fans of the ‘Boys In Green’ to suggest it might be time for a different approach.
