Republic of Ireland vs Denmark predictions and Nations League betting tips for Saturday’s fixture at the Aviva Stadium. The match takes place in Dublin and our tipster has selected an anytime goalscorer tip and match result bet.
If the last meeting between these two teams is anything to go by, then the Republic of Ireland might as well not turn up again. That encounter saw the Danes romp to a 5-1 victory with Spurs playmaker Christian Eriksen bagging a hat-trick on the way to single-handedly securing his country’s place at the World Cup in Russia. The Republic of Ireland have won just once in the last year – against a poor USA – and were also thumped against Wales last month. I can see Denmark winning in Ireland once again and can’t believe that BetVictor are offering 11/5 on that outcome. Rival firms are nearer the 6/4 mark – so get on quick!
Denmark will be hoping goals come from other sources this time around, with Christian Eriksen’s lingering injury keeping him away from this round of international fixtures. Fortunately for the Danes, they can call upon the services of young Kasper Dolberg. The Ajax striker has an excellent strike rate at club level and is already off the mark for his country, despite his career very much being in its infancy. William Hill are offering 23/10 on the blonde-haired hitman notching at some stage during 90 minutes, which looks a fair price on one of Scandinavian football’s hottest prospects.
Despite referencing two separate occasions in which the Republic of Ireland have taken a battering, generally speaking at least, their matches are tedious affairs with few goals scored. Fair cases in point are their two friendlies against Turkey and France, which yielded two defeats in which they failed to score. Although Denmark possess talent and some industrious players within their squad, they’re hardly one of Europe’s more attacking sides. I envisage a much tighter game than we witnessed in Dublin last November, and it can hardly fail to be. Under 2.5 goals jumps out at me and is certainly a credible selection. Betfair are the most generous on that particular betting tip, at 3/5, but it’s a short price for good reason.
Republic of Ireland to win – 14/5
Draw – 21/10
Denmark to win – 11/5
It’s difficult to gauge players’ interest levels in the Nations League, with a broad consensus suggesting the matches are simply perceived as dressed up friendlies. There’s certainly some credibility in that argument, but it doesn’t change the fact that there is still a game to be contested.
If you’re selecting the Republic of Ireland off the back of anything other than blind faith, I think you’d need your head tested! Martin O’Neill’s side are turgid and uninspiring which has prompted more than a few fans of the ‘Boys In Green’ to suggest it might be time for a different approach.
They’re the home side, true, but I still wouldn’t touch them at 14/5. With that said, I can’t see a repeat of Denmark’s last visit, although I do think they’ll triumph again. They shouldn’t be a 11/5 poke, anyway.
