Newport County vs Tranmere Betting Tips

The League Two play-off final looks to be an intriguing affair, and it’s a game between two sides who are incredibly hard to beat. Mike Flynn’s Newport booked their place in this showpiece event courtesy of a penalty shoot-out, and they were absolutely superb in that highly pressured situation. The Exiles have plenty of experience in big games, and they’ve become knock-out specialists.

They ended the season in superb form, and didn’t lost any of their last eight games. They barely put a foot wrong, and conceded very few goals during that run. Not only are they well-organised, they are battle-hardened, and always ready to fight for one another.

They have played Tranmere twice this season, and they managed to keep a clean sheet in each of those encounters. They picked up four points from a possible six against the men from the Wirral, and will fancy their chances of keeping Mickey Mellon’s men off the scoresheet once more.

Tranmere booked their place at Wembley courtesy of a 1-1 draw at the New Lawn, with fans celebrating effusively in Gloucestershire. It was a superb tactical display, as they thwarted Forest Green, and stopped them playing their usual passing game. Rovers have been superb at the back this season, particularly at Prenton Park, and another defensive display will be required here.

They only won one of the last seven League Two matches of the regular season, and don’t arrive in the best of form, but they do possess the division’s top goalscorer, and James Norwood will hassle the Newport defence throughout the 90 minutes. His goal against FGR was superbly taken, and he’ll be hoping to fire his side to League One.

This game may not be one for the neutral. It will be hard-fought, and full of grit and determination, and should be fairly even. Both sides are difficult to break down, and there was very little between them when they met earlier in the campaign.

In the outright odds, backing the draw looks like the best option and that’s the Newport County vs Tranmere prediction for this weekend’s League Two play-off final. We could be in for extra-time and penalties!

Newport County vs Tranmere – Don’t Expect Goals

This game is unlikely to start at 100mph. The two sides are likely take a cautious approach, and size one another up. Newport have been drawing at HT in 39% of their games this season, whilst 43% of Tranmere’s games have also been level at the break.

Both of the games between the pair have ended with just a single goal this season. Newport have conceded just three first-half goals in their last 13 matches, and they are likely to be tough to break down once again.

With so much at stake, neither side will want to take any risks, and therefore backing a low-scoring first half looks like the best option. Under 2.5 Goals is as short as 8/15 with the majority of bookmakers, so we have to find other ways of finding value.

League Two Play-off Final Prediction

There won’t be much between these two sides, as our earlier betting tips suggest, but someone has got to be promoted!

Tranmere are quickly becoming experts in playing at Wembley, but it’s incredibly hard to write off Newport County.

The gravelly-voiced Mike Flynn is clearly an outstanding motivator, and his side looked very confident of their positions and responsibilities during the semi-finals. They were also superb from the spot, and every player kept their cool from 12 yards.

That bodes well, and Newport are the bigger price of the pair to lift the trophy.
