Peterborough vs Fleetwood Preview

Peterborough have done some of the most eye-catching business of the summer transfer window, and many pundits have tipped Darren Ferguson’s side to be pushing for an automatic promotion spot this time around. They almost made the play-offs last time around, but a dodgy mid-season run minimised their chances of breaking into the top six, and they’ll be aiming to put that right during the 2019-2020 campaign. Questions remain over Ferguson’s ability in the dugout, but he does seem to work well with the chairman, and the pair have added to a squad which was already jam-packed full of talent. At the time of writing, Marcus Maddison is still at the club whilst the likes of Siriki Dembele and Ivan Toney will once again look to impress. George Boyd returns, and is likely to play some part this season whilst Mo Eisa already looks fairly sharp in pre-season. They ended last season in a very positive fashion which included a surprise 3-2 victory over Pompey at Fratton Park. Peterborough will have play-offs as the minimum requirement this season, and they will be expected to start with a victory here.

The shadow of Joey Barton’s tunnel antics continue to loom over the club, but despite this, the Scouser remains at the helm, and he appears to have added well this summer. Paul Coutts is a marquee signing, and he could be too good for this level. The Cod Army still possess one of the sharpest shooters in the division with Paddy Madden looking to improve upon his 19 goals last year. Jordan Rossiter is a savvy addition, and adds weight to their midfield, whilst Harry Souttar returns after a very productive loan spell last season. All in all, Fleetwood look stronger than last season, and they have been tipped for a tilt at the play-offs by many experts this campaign. Barton must ensure he rotates his talented squad effectively, and keep some of his talented fringe players happy. Fleetwood’s away form was troublesome last season, with twelve defeats on their travels, and it’s something they must improve if they harbour top six ambitions.

Peterborough vs Fleetwood Betting Tips

Posh made a very fast start last season and won their first two home matches by an aggregate scoreline of 5-2. They were victorious in their opening five matches, and although they are under different management this time around, they will be hoping to make an equally quick start to the League One season. They ended last season very strongly, and they only appear to have made the squad significantly stronger this summer. If Ferguson can harness that momentum from May, then they could be difficult to stop here. Fleetwood struggled on the road last season, and they lost 1-0 at this stadium. They need to rectify their form away from Highbury, but this is a tough assignment, and they may head back to the Fylde Coast with nothing to show for it. The hosts should win this game, and their Evens to take all three points.

Goals tend to follow Peterborough around, and they have enviable firepower in the squad. Ivan Toney and Mo Eisa will both be expected to grab double figures by December, whilst Matt Godden is also still knocking around. They have plenty of creativity in the midfielder, and they could notch two or three goals easily here. Fleetwood didn’t score here last season, but they have a number of dangerous players, and will probably hit the target more often than not this year. Over 2.5 Goals looks like a good pick for this potentially entertaining opening day clash.
