Preston vs Stoke Preview

Preston were beaten 3-2 at the Liberty Stadium at the weekend and won our bet with the BetBull welcome bonus, despite being the better side for the majority of the tie. At the end of the day, Swansea’s Andre Ayew and Borja Baston made the difference, and that extra little bit of quality was the only difference between the pair. Alex Neil’s side are always tougher to beat at home, and they managed to hold the Potters to a 2-2 draw here last season. PNE also came out on top during their north-west derby match with Wigan eleven days ago, and if the Lilywhites produce a similar level of performance, they will fancy their chances of taking three points here. Sean Maguire appears to be finally living up to his potential, and luckily for PNE fans, he also seems to have put his wretched recent injury record behind him. Daniel Johnson, whose future was in doubt a few weeks ago has also enjoyed a recent resurgence. Stoke-born Louis Moult will be hoping to get the nod against his hometown club.

Stoke are still looking for their first victory of the campaign, but there is plenty to be positive about at the Bet365 Stadium. They played their best game of the season against Derby on Saturday, and hit the woodwork twice in that encounter. Nathan Jones demands plenty from his players, and despite picking up a point against the Rams, he laid into his side after the game. Stoke have missed some chances this season, and if Joe Allen has put the ball in the back of the net from 3-yards out in the first half, it couldn’t have been a completely different story. The Potters downfall seems to be giving away sloppy goals, and they switched off with less than three minutes on the clock, as well as giving away a second half penalty. Peter Etebo has returned to the side, and that can only be a positive for the club. Stoke have been involved in plenty of entertaining games this season, with 11 goals in their opening three encounters.

Preston vs Stoke Betting Tips

It’s hard to look beyond the goals in this tie. At an odds-against price, this could be a thoroughly entertaining game, and certainly one for the neutrals. Stoke are one of four sides to have conceded seven times in their opening four matches, whilst Preston have already netted five times this campaign. Stoke’s games have averaged 3.67 goals per game so far, and although it is only a small sample size, it’s a noticeable difference from the end of the 2018-19 campaign in which they picked up several goalless draws. Both sides looks capable in the final third, but they also look suceptible at the back. Over 2.5 Goals looks like a decent pick here.

Scott Hogan got off the mark for his latest club on Saturday, and he will be hoping that is the first of many. He is claiming Stoke’s first goal despite some sources claiming that Liam Lindsay got the decisive touch. The Irish International is the kind of player who thrives on decent service, and he is likely to get that here. He also tends to go on good goalscoring runs, and he could find the net for the second time in four days here.
