Queens Park Rangers currently sit in mid-table in the Championship after an indifferent start to the new season. They beat Wigan 3-1 at home last weekend but prior to that had lost 3-1 against Swansea City and 2-0 against Bristol City. This Carabao Cup tie tonight might be a welcome distraction for the players and they will fancy their chances of getting to the next round. In round one, they needed a penalty shoot-out to see off Bristol City after drawing the match 3-3.
Portsmouth haven’t had a great start to League One this season and were held to a 3-3 draw against Coventry last weekend. They have also lost 2-1 to Sunderland already this season and find themselves down in 16th place with just one win on the board.
Their 3-0 win over Birmingham in the last round was impressive and they will be hoping for another result against second tier opposition tonight. These two sides met in the FA Cup last season, with QPR winning the replay at Loftus Road.
Portsmouth were among the League One promotion favourites at the start of the season but are finding it tough to get out of this division and manager Kenny Jacket might want to prioritise the league rather than the cup competitions this season.
The home side are favourites to win this match but we are going for the draw in our football predictions tonight. There are always changes to the starting line-ups in this competition and that will give Portsmouth hope, but you should check the team news before placing any bets.
Both of these sides have been finding the net this season and Kenny Jackett will be pleased with the start his QPR side have made in that sense. They’ve scored in five of their six matches so far this season but conceded in all of them. Portsmouth’s 3-3 draw at the weekend also backs up the second of our QPR vs Portsmouth predictions, which is for both teams to score.
