Salford City vs Leeds United Preview

Salford got off to the best possible start with a 2-0 victory over Stevenage. The Ammies played with real determination, although their opponents lack of penetration certainly helped their cause. Graham Alexander’s side disappointed on their return to action at the weekend with a tame 2-0 defeat to Crawley. The Red Devils had 20 shots during that game with the Salford goal coming under fire throughout the 90 minutes. It’s a mixed start to the campaign for last seasons National League play-off winners, and they’ll be desperate to claim a scalp in the first round of the EFL Cup. At the time of writing, there haven’t been too many clues about the potential line-up, but Graham Alexander will be aware of the importance of this tie, and he may opt to make very few changes to his line-up. Players such as Luke Armstrong and Joey Jones both made appearances from the bench at the weekend, and will be keeping their fingers crossed for a start here.

Leeds were unlucky not to have taken maximum points from their match against Nottingham Forest at the weekend. The Whites were comfortably in control throughout the game with Patrick Bamford missing several decent chances. Forest scored a scrappy equaliser, and there wasn’t enough time for the West Yorkshire club to find a winner. Marcelo Bielsa made several changes for cup ties last season, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him make eight or nine changes for Tuesday night. He’s confirmed that Gaetano Berardi will definitely start this game, and he’s promised a few minutes to players who haven’t featured yet this season. The Argentine would not be drawn on whether new signing Eddie Nketiah would be given a start, but he promised reporters that he would be involved in some capacity. Leeds squeezed past Bolton at this stage this season, before crashing out of the competition at the hands of Preston. This should be easier for Leeds, although this XI may be unrecognisable for the Saturday’s line-up.

Salford City vs Leeds United Betting Tips

Salford will pose a threat, and they are set to be very dangerous opposition for Leeds. Judging by their opening couple of performances (which is always a dangerous thing to do), they should be much stronger at Moor Lane this campaign, and they should offer a threat in final third. Leeds are 8/15 to win this game, which is a bit short, so by chucking in BTTS, we’re getting a price of 11/5 with Paddy Power.

Leeds will have a much changed defence, and that could play into the hands of the Salford forward line.

Although Eddie Nketiah’s price has shortened following confirmation that he will feature in this game, I’d actually prefer to look elsewhere. Bielsa’s tone doesn’t suggest he will deploy him from the off, so Jack Clarke may prove a better option. He’s back on loan from Spurs for the season, and is always a danger. He could easily drift in from wide positions, and isn’t afraid to get a shot off. He’s 12/5 to net at any point.
