Scunthorpe vs Swindon Preview

Scunthorpe were expected to challenge at the right end of League One last season, but a poor run of form saw them fall down the table, and they became embroiled in a relegation battle. It’s been all change in the managerial department this summer with Paul Hurst taking over the reins, and he should be able to help guide Scunny back to the third tier. They have been pitched as one of the promotion favourites this season, but it may take time to acclimatise to these surroundings. The loss of Funso Ojo is a concern, and the unpredictable Josh Morris has also left Lincolnshire. Andy Butler is a superb addition at the back, and it should make the Iron tougher to beat, whilst Ryan Colclough could be one of the best players in the division if he can get back to full fitness. Lee Novak should also score goals at this level, but it remains to be seen how much game-time he is given. Some fans expected a greater turnover of players this summer, but Hurst has been adding quality and not quantity.

Swindon are an interesting side, and it’ll be fascinating to see how they progress this season. I like the intentions of Richie Wellens, and the former Blackpool midfielder made a decent start implementing his gegenpressing style tactics last season. It didn’t work all the time, and he perhaps didn’t have the players to fully embrace this change in philosophy. However, when it worked, it was brilliant to watch. Slightly concerningly, they only won one of their last seven matches, but they did only lose two of them, and both by slender margins. The players should have had a decent rest, and should be fitter for a full pre-season under Wellens. Dan Ballard is an exciting addition, and Zeki Fryers should get up and down that touchline with relative ease. The boss has turned to younger players this season, and they should be one of the most energetic sides in the division. Watch out for Jerry Yates, who should get his fair share of goals this season.

Scunthorpe vs Swindon Betting Tips

Swindon lost just eight times last season on the road, but three of those defeats came prior to Wellens’ arrival. They were pretty handy on their travels, and their pressing style was reasonably effective. They could potentially surprise Scunthorpe, who will be hoping for an easy start to life in League Two. I’m sure I’m confident enough to back the Robins to collect all three points, but they certainly should get something from this encounter, and at 8/11, it’s a reasonably assumption that they can make an undefeated start to the campaign.

Although Swindon should get something from this game, they might not be able to keep a clean sheet. On the road, they kept just four clean sheets on their travels since Wellens arrived at the club. Both Teams to Score? Yes looks like a reasonable proposition in this encounter.
