Tottenham vs Newcastle Predictions and Betting Tips: Premier League Preview

Tottenham predictions

Tottenham vs Newcastle predictions and betting tips for the Premier League fixture at Wembley on Saturday lunchtime. After conceding some ground in recent weeks, Spurs will be looking to get some more points in the board in their quest for Champions League football.

The Londoners entertain a buoyant Newcastle who shocked the nation in midweek when they turned over champions Manchester City. A repeat of that result in the capital would be equally as surprising and go some way to keeping Rafa Benitez’s side away from the relegation zone.

Tottenham vs Newcastle Predictions

I make the home side strong favourites for this one and I’m clearly not alone in that. The fact that Spurs have struggled in the final third of late could make this a closer contest than their fans might hope, with just four goals in their last five matches prior to Wednesday’s clash against Watford going some way to explaining their recent woes. With that said, I like the look of Tottenham winning and fewer than four goals being scored during the 90 minutes for my predictions on the match. That’s just over evens at most firms, with 11/10 the best you’ll find.

Despite Son’s impressive statistics – which seem to improve with every passing season – it always seems possible to get a half decent price on Son scoring anytime. On this occasion he’s a 7/4 poke to bag against Newcastle, and you won’t find many more attractive single selections this weekend given that he was once again on the scoresheet when Spurs played Watford on Wednesday night.

I don’t think this will be a walk in the park for Tottenham but they should be seeing off a side that continues to flirt with relegation. I can see the hosts winning by the odd goal in three, with Betfred paying 8/1 on a 2-1 correct score bet.

Tottenham vs Newcastle Preview

As previously touched upon, Spurs haven’t been performing to their usual standards since the festive period and are at risk of undoing a fantastic start to the season unless they find some much-needed consistency. Mauricio Pochettino’s beat Watford on Wednesday night and so have had 24 hours less to prepare for this match than their opponents – not that there are any valid excuses for failing to win. Sure, Tottenham are without two of their most important players in Dele Alli and Harry Kane but they’ve also been fortunate with the early return of Son Heung-Min, who would have hoped to still be competing in the Asia Cup.

Son Heung-Min declared that he was ‘sad’ to leave his teammates before jetting off to the United Arab Emirates on international duty, although he’d undoubtedly be just as upset to be returning to these shores sooner than he might have imagined. Still, South Korea’s loss is very much Tottenham’s game and they could do with the dynamic attacker chipping in with some goals now more than ever before.

At this stage of the season, and with a double cup disappointment still very much fresh in the memory, there’s no doubt that Tottenham will be keen to just put a run of victories together. A cynic would suggest that Pochettino’s side are looking a little bit stale and the situation has certainly not been helped by their seemingly enforced inactivity in the transfer market. Including Saturday’s fixture against Newcastle, Spurs have some very ‘winnable’ Premier League ties coming up with Leicester and Burnley both imminent. Nine points will and should be the aim for players and management – starting with The Magpies’ visit.
