Chester Races Tips:

1.50pm – Great Dane (5/1 with William Hill)

2.25pm – Fanny Logan (6/1 with William Hill)

3.00pm – Top Breeze (10/3 with William Hill).

3.35pm – King Ottokar (10/3 with William Hill).

Chester 1.50pm: 5f (5f15y) Stellar Group Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes (Plus 10 Race) (Class 2) (2yo)

The first race on the card looks wide open with the current favourite being 7/2 shot Show Me Show Me. If you are unfamiliar with races at Chester, the course is a mile around so horses drawn in high numbers have a big disadvantage in the shorter races, and this 5f sprint is exactly that. Show Me Show Me is drawn in stall 8 and that isn’t somewhere you want to be around the Roodee. The Richard Fahey inmate also has a penalty to carry following his win last time out. The rank outsider is in the plum draw here, stall 1 but the answer to this tricky puzzle could come from stall 3, and the David O’Meara trained GREAT DANE. He was very keen on debut and hung left before tailing off to finish seventh, but got the hang of things next time out, winning a Ripon novice stakes by almost three lengths. He led for most of the race that day and if he can get an early lead here, he could be hard to peg back.

Chester 1.50pm Selection: Great Dane (5/1 with William Hill)

Chester 2.25pm: 1m3½f (1m3f75y) Arkle Finance Cheshire Oaks (For The Robert Sangster Memorial Cup) (Listed Race) (Fillies)(Class 1) (3yo).

The second race at Chester races this week is a class 1 for fillies and the current head of the market is the first Aidan O’Brian runner of the week, Secret Thoughts. She hasn’t pulled up any trees of late but you can never rule Ballydoyle horses out around Chester and given their strong start to the season, a check on the betting is advised. However, our selection is the John Gosden trained FANNY LOGAN, who is the ride of Frankie Dettori. This is a big step up in class but she was impressive when stepping up to 10 furlongs last time out. The other interesting runner here is current joint favourite Manuela De Vega, who won both her races as a 2 year old and this step up in trip looks sure to suit.

Chester 2.25pm Selection: Fanny Logan (6/1 with William Hill)

Chester 3.00pm: 5f (5f15y) Boodles Diamond Handicap (Class 2) (3yo 0-105)

Next up on ITV4 racing is another 5f sprint, this time a class 2 race for 3 year olds. An interesting runner her is Angel Alexander, who is trained by local trainer Tom Dascombe and part owned by Michael Owen. The pair do well at this track and any runners they send have to be taken seriously. The horse hasn’t made an appearance this season but finished second on all three starts during the back end of 2018 and it will be interesting to see what owners and trainers say and will be well worth a market check on the day. However, the selection for this race is going to be favourite TOP BREEZE who has the pick of the draw in stall 1. He has won both starts this season and should improve for those performances too. He’s gone up 6lb for his win at Newmarket but that might not be enough for the strong finisher, if he can get a clear run down the split.

Chester 3.00pm Selection: Top Breeze (10/3 with William Hill).

Chester 3.35pm: 1m4½f (1m4f63y) MBNA Chester Vase Stakes (Group 3) (Colts & Geldings) (Class 1) (3yo)

The final ITV4 race from Chester is the feature on the day, the Group 3 Chester Vase. Aidan O’Brian has the current market leader in the race in Norway, and he has won seven of the last 10 renewals with horses such as Ruler of the World, Treasure Beach and US Army Ranger. He has three runners in this race with Norway the selection of Ryan Moore but none of the contenders look as strong as in previous years. An interesting runner, and our betting tip for the Chester Vase, is KING OTTOKAR. Trainer Charlie Fellowes has said he’s the best horse he’s ever trained and the son of Motivator was pitted against subsequent 2000 Guineas winner Magna Grecia at Doncaster last year, finishing 8 lengths behind the winner. He beat both Dashing Willoughby (second) and Kaloor (third) recently at Newbury and stall 5 gives jockey Ben Curtis plenty of opportunity to get a good position.

Chester 3.35pm Selection: King Ottokar (10/3 with William Hill).
