Fantasy Football Captain Tips for Gameweek 5 – Salah, Sterling or Aguero?

Fantasy Football tips

It’s been a long wait for FPL gameweek 5 after the international break. There are no shortage of captaincy options this week with Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham all with favourable fixtures. Here’s our breakdown of the best options.

This is the first time this season that none of the top 6 play eachother so we are spoilt for choice for captains picks this weekend. The very first match is Liverpool at home to Newcastle to people will be banking on Saido Mane and Mo Salah, but after Mane got just one point against Norwich, is he the right choice?

Option 1 – Mo Salah (12.5m) vs Newcastle

The top point scorer for each of the last two seasons, Mo Salah has got off to another fast start this year. 3 goals and 2 assists from the opening four weeks, with just one blank, places him fourth amongst the current top point scorers. Liverpool’s gameweek 5 opponents, Newcastle, represent a profitable fixture on paper but could cause issues. The Magpies pulled off a shock 1-0 away win over Tottenham in gameweek 3 and restricted Arsenal to just one goal in gameweek 1. Liverpool should find a way through, but this might not be the thumping Salah owners are hoping for.

Option 2 – Raheem Sterling (12.3m) vs Norwich

Sterling has begun the season in spectacular form, recording five goals in four games, including a hat-trick in gameweek 1. He has played every minute of the campaign so far and looks likely to surpass the 200-point mark for a third consecutive season. Manchester City have averaged 3.5 goals a game and face Norwich who have failed to keep a clean sheet and have averaged 2.5 goals against per game. Norwich play an attacking style of football and as they have shown against Liverpool and Chelsea, will persist with that style against any side. Sterling should have plenty of opportunities running in behind.

Option 3 – Sergio Aguero (12.1m) vs Norwich

The current front runner for the golden boot, Sergio Aguero has already netted six times in less than 270 minutes. The Argentine has scored in every gameweek so far and has an impressive goal involvement of 50%. For a team who scores as much as Manchester City, being directly involved in that many goals will be extremely profitable for owners. The biggest caveat with Aguero is his game time. Gabriel Jesus could be ready for selection after injury ruled him out of the last two fixtures. However, with Aguero fully rested having not featured for Argentina over the international break, he should start at the very least.

Recommended Captain for Gameweek 5 – Raheem Sterling

For security of game time and his ability to make well-timed runs against a defensively poor team, we’re backing Sterling with the captaincy this week. He was on fire for England in the Euro 2020 qualifiers and so gets the armband here.
