Jurgen Klopp gives an injury update ahead of Champions League final

Liverpool Klopp

After coming past Barcelona in the most dramatic of fashion earlier in the month, Jurgen Klopp has Champions League success firmly in his sights.

12 months on from suffering European heartbreak at the hands of Real Madrid, Liverpool will travel to the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday for their all-Premier League showdown against Tottenham.

Speaking to the media ahead of their trip to Madrid on June 1st, the former Borussia Dortmund boss has given a fitness update on his squad and has also announced that Roberto Firmino has been declared fit.

Klopp’s Champions League injury update

Despite eventually ending their domestic campaign one-point adrift of Manchester City and their first Premier League crown, the mood in Liverpool’s camp will be on a high.

Klopp’s men recently returned to the North West of England to prepare at the club’s training ground after they enjoyed a warm-weather camp in Marbella putting together their preparations.

Although Liverpool’s attacking duo of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have spearheaded the Reds’ European charge, fans on Merseyside will be boosted by the news that Roberto Firmino is set to feature in the Madrid showpiece.

Picking up a groin injury that has seen him miss Liverpool’s last three outings, there were previous concerns that Firmino’s season had come to an abrupt end.

However, the Brazilian ace returned to training with his teammates in Marbella last week and the Liverpool boss expects to be able to call upon him in Madrid.

Speaking on Tuesday, Klopp said:

“Bobby was part of training last week and will be a part again tomorrow and he’s looking good so he will be part of the final I’m sure.”

Although the Liverpool squad appeared in high spirits during their training session at Melwood, Klopp also revealed that he will be unable to call upon midfielder Naby Keita.

The 26-year-old suffered the injury during Liverpool’s semi-final first leg clash against Barcelona and he has not made an appearance since, missing the second leg as well as the conclusion to Liverpool’s Premier League season.

“[There is] no chance for Naby,”

“He is really progressing well, we will see how it will work out for him for the Africa Cup of Nations. We don’t know that yet.”

While Klopp will be excited by the chance to recall Firmino this weekend, fans in North London will also be overjoyed by their own attacking talisman declaring his fitness.

Despite not featuring for Spurs since the 9th of April due to an ankle injury, Harry Kane says he is “ready to go” and has joined defender Jan Vertonghen in full training before they make the trip to Madrid.
