Liverpool’s Predicted Line-up vs Porto in the Champions League Quarter Final

Liverpool Klopp

Lievrpool play Porto in the first leg of the Champions League quarter final tie this week and they will have to do without the suspended Andrew Robertson, who picked up a needless booking late on against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Areana.

Jurgen Klopp’s side should be confident of booking a semi-final match against either Manchester United or Barcelona and a this first leg at Anfield could see Liverpool out of sight before the teams meet in Porto on Wednesday 17th April for the second leg – but how will Liverpool line-up for the match at Anfield?

Liverpool Predicted Line-up v Porto

Goalkeeper

Alisson will continue in goal for the Reds – he will want to keep a clean sheet given that he hasn’t managed to do so in his last five matches now. Liverpool have only kept three clean sheets in their last 12 Champions League matches but that has been the last three home games – against Bayern Munich, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade.

Defenders

The big talking point ahead of this Liverpool vs Porto tie is who will replace Andrew Robertson at left-back and James Milner looks the most likely to get the nod ahead of Alberto Moreno. Moreno would be a good attacking option for Klopp but at this stage of the competition, he will probably go for the security of James Milner at left back.

In the centre of defence Virgin Van Dijk and Joel Matip will continue and Trent Alexander-Arnold will play right-back. Jurgen Klopp hailed Virgil Van Dijk’s impact at Liverpool since his signing before their recent Premier League match.

Midfield

With James Milner likely to be deployed as left back, Liverpool have less of a headache in picking the midfield. Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum have been two of the three for Klopp in the Champions League along with Milner, but his space has been freed up by him playing left-back. We’re expecting Naby Keita to get the nod ahead of Fabinho following his goal and good performance against Southampton on Friday night.

Attack

The usual front three will look to give Liverpool a lead going into the second leg in two weeks time and Saido Mane in his usual position on the left and Mo Salah and Firmino alternating through the middle and from the right.

Mane was the hero against Bayern Munich with two goals and Salah is back in goalscoring form after setting up the own goal against Tottenham and then scoring against Southampton in the recent Premier League fixture.
