Punchestown Day 4 Betting Tips and Predictions: Friday 3rd May 2019

Today's Racing Tips

There is hope in the Nicky Henderson yard that Buveur D’air can return to winning ways in the Punchestown Champion Hurdle and his clash with Supasundae is the highlight of the fourth day. Cheltenham winner City Island also reappears in a later contest, with the main feature races covered below.

Betdaq Punchestown Champion Hurdle Tip

Former Cheltenham Champion Hurdler Buveur D’Air has won just two of his five starts this season and was involved in a particularly hard race when beaten over 2m4f at Aintree by Supasundae in soft conditions. Both horses re-oppose in this event and the latter has finished second in two races over two miles this term after winning both of his two milers last season including the 2018 edition of this contest.

Apple’s Jade will also be trying to restore her reputation after failures at both Cheltenham and Liverpool and it may just be that we have already seen the best of this 7-year-old mare this season.

Of the others, Willie Mullins will be saddling Melon who finished second in the Champion Hurdle back in March but is not the most reliable of horses as seems to be the case now of Petit Mouchoir who has not won a race since scoring at this course during October 2017.

Selection: Supasundae to Win (7/2 with William Hill).

Alanna Homes Champion Novice Hurdle Tip

After winning the Ballymore Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham, City Island is the horse to beat in this 2m4f event and he has won all four hurdle races to date. Trainer Martin Brassil will be hoping that he can thwart a five-horse attack from Willie Mullins with Royal Rendezvous arguably the pick of those five contenders. Although the 7-year-old gelding has not raced since October last year, he did win impressively in just his only contest over hurdles at Galway.

However, City Island could have most to fear from English challenger Reserve Tank who has won all three hurdle races this year for trainer Colin Tizzard and who completed that three-timer when clinching a Grade 1 prize at Aintree over this distance.

Battleoverdoyen will be saddle for the Gordon Elliott yard but he was a very disappointing favourite at Cheltenham in the race won by City Island, and he will hope to redeem his reputation after winning all three races in Ireland prior to that flop.

Selection: City Island to Win (6/4 with William Hill)

Star Best For Racing Coverage Champion Hunter Chase Tip

For this three-miles event, there is not much to choose between Burning Ambition and Fenno’s Storm based on the narrow distance between the two horses in a point-to-point race back in January. The former gelding won on that occasion and also followed home Top Wood at Aintree, while the latter has been much busier this year winning three times over this distance before unseating last time.

It could also be worth noting It Came To Pass who has won three successive races following an seasonal debut third place, while Caid Du Berlais produced a very disappointing performance when tailed off behind Hazel Hill at Cheltenham. Ucello Conti could be a threat but raced last week when accounting for Sizing Coal at Fairyhouse following defeats at Aintree and Cheltenham.

Ignoring any Enda Bolger trained horse would also be unwise with Stand Up And Fight reappearing after a sixth place finish in the Foxhunters Chase at Cheltenham.

Selection: Burning Ambition to Win (with William Hill)

SalesSense International Novice Hurdle Tip

The Joseph O’Brien trained horse Gardens Of Babylon has been placed in good company this season including a third position behind Penland Hills in the Cheltenham Triumph Hurdle, but he is likely to be opposed by three juveniles from the Willie Mullins yard.

Breaken could be the best of these geldings after scoring emphatically at Limerick during late March in his only race to date for the Irish trainer. He could be useful.

Selection: Breaken to Win (with William Hill)
