Blackburn vs Millwall Preview

Tony Mowbray says that ‘everything is slowly coming together’, and the Teessider seems confident ahead of this tie with Millwall. The former Middlesbrough boss claims that his side have been working hard during the International Break, and their lack of consistency is a slight concern for supporters. Rovers often struggle to break down more compact and resolute teams, and Millwall certainly fall into that bracket. They played reasonably well in that 3-2 defeat to West Brom a fortnight ago, and they did pick up a point in their last home game against Cardiff City. The only home loss so far came against Charlton on the opening weekend of the season, and there is unlikely to be much in this contest. With the exception of the Fulham defeat, each of Rovers’ games have been decided by a single goal, and if Mowbray’s men are to win this game, it is likely to be by the slenderest of margins. They are unbeaten in their last seven games against Millwall, and they will be hoping to extend that run when they welcome the Lions to Ewood Park on Saturday.

Amazingly, Millwall haven’t scored more than a single goal in a match since April 6th. It’s 13 games since Neil Harris’ men have managed to double up, and they need to find their shooting boots for this long trip to Lancashire. They were expected to beat Hull a fortnight ago, but fell victim to a Kamil Grosicki goal in the first half. The Lions haven’t won since August 17th, and both of their victories have come in Bermondsey so far. They’ve lost six of their last eight trips to this stadium, and they will be hoping to end that miserable run here. According to Opta, Millwall are the only side who haven’t managed to complete 1000 passes this season, and they have been quite light on possession so far. However, their aerial threat is impressive with Matt Smith already causing problems for many opponents so far. Jed Wallace has impressed and Connor Mahoney has looked sharp so far.

Blackburn vs Millwall Betting Tips

There is unlikely to be much between these two sides, and this could be a closely fought contest. Millwall have drawn three of their first six games, and did pick up an impressive point at the Hawthorns. They may not score many goals, but Fulham are the only side to score more than one against the Lions so far, and they could be hard to break down once again. Blackburn have kept three clean sheets in four, and haven’t conceded a home goal since the opening day of the campaign. It’s unlikely to be a classic, but it should be a fascinating tussle. The draw looks likely, and can be backed at 12/5.

Under 2.5 Goals would have landed in four of Blackburn’s last six matches, whilst only one of Millwall’s games have featured three or more so far. It’s 8/11 for another low-scoring affair on Saturday, and that looks a superb odds-on bet for this game.
