Who will be in the lead going back to the bridge?
Halfway through this season, there were very strong calls for Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri to get the sack. Fast forward a few months later and the blues are sitting in 3rd place above London rivals Spurs and Arsenal, and are one win away from reaching a major European final. Not so bad for Sarri’s first season. The possibility of playing in a final against Arsenal is a mouthwatering prospect for the players and fans and one that they would love to be involved in.
They were frustrated last week by Frankfurt, who started the game very well, taking the lead through youngstar Luka Jovic, before Pedro equalised. Chelsea were fairly dominant in the second half but were unable to find a second away goal. Chelsea will take some confidence going into the home leg after Frankfurt were smashed 6-1 by Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend.
The first of our Chelsea vs Eintracht Frankfurt predictions is for Chelsea to win and both teams to score and the odds for this are 2/1 with 888Sport.
The Chelsea players will be wanting to bring a lift to the club after their appeal against their transfer ban was rejected by FIFA on Wednesday and what better way to do that than to win this tournament, see our Chelsea vs Arsenal predictions for the Europa League final, including a 13/1 correct score bet.
Chelsea were good value in their 3-0 win against Watford at the bridge on Sunday. Eden Hazard starred once again grabbing a couple of assists, running the game again like he has done so many times this season. Although this result did push Chelsea up a place to 3rd, it came at a cost as World Cup winning midfielder N’Golo Kante was substituted off injured after 10 minutes. This leaves space for either Ross Barkley or Ruben Loftus-Cheek to impress the boss.
As stated earlier, Frankfurt had a real torrid time at the weekend. Losing 6-1 to league rivals Bayer Leverkusen as they both push for a champions league place. Die Adler will need to bounce back here and will back themselves as overall they have has a brilliant season so far. Star striker Luka Jovic was a substitute on Sunday, meaning that he will be well rested for Thursday’s clash.
Although he started on the bench last week, it is expected that Eden Hazard will start this game. With the game being at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will try to control the game which will only work in Hazard’s favour. I expect the Belgian to bag at least one goal tonight. You can get Hazard to score anytime at 11/10 with Unibet.
Chelsea performed a lot better than expected in the first leg. The atmosphere in Frankfurt is very unique and intimidating. They did very well to overcome this and were rather unlucky not to come away with a first leg lead. Chelsea did however get an away goal which can always be pivotal in these European fixtures.
Frankfurt also showed that they are no pushovers. They will come to London and give their all, however, I do feel that they will fall just a little short. I am predicting a 3-1 win for Chelsea, and you can get this at 10/1 with Ladbrokes.
Chelsea to win – 4/11
Draw – 9/2
Frankfurt to win – 8/1
