Over 2.5 Goals Tips

Blackburn vs Charlton

Blackburn’s home form was strong throughout 2018-19, and Rovers lost just six times at Ewood Park. Perhaps, surprisingly, only 39% of their games in Lancashire ended with Over 2.5 Goals, but they always look capable in front of their own fans, and I think they can serve up an entertaining 90 minutes when they take on newcomers Charlton Athletic. Mowbray’s men were involved in four 2-2 draws here last season, and they scored nine times in their last five home games of the campaign. The Addicks arrive in the Championship following their play-off final victory against Sunderland, and Lee Bowyer’s men will be keen to start on the front foot. Although they’ve lost some key players, they should have enough attacking impetus to give Rovers a few problems. Seven of their last eight games at the back end of the 2018-19 campaign featured three or more goals, and 54% of their away games would have paid out Over 2.5 Goals backers last year. This could be a decent watch, and at Evens with 888Sport, it looks worth including.

Burton vs Ipswich

The Brewers had a storming end to last season, but Nigel Clough’s men invariably just fell short of reaching the play-offs. Burton were very entertaining to watch with a combined total of 18 goals in their last five league games. They were also free-scoring at the Pirelli throughout March and April with 14 goals in their last five matches here. They have lost midfield dynamo Jamie Allen, but they’ve recruited sensibly this summer, and they should play in a similar way. Ipswich are back in the third tier for the first time since the 1956-57 campaign, and the Suffolk side will be desperate to make their stay at this level a brief one. They have added James Norwood to their side, and League Two’s top goalscorer last season will be keen to get off to a flying start. He could be a good bet for an anytime goalscorer, and he’ll be ably assisted by Kayden Jackson, Gwion Williams and the returning Emyr Huws. It’s odds-against for Over 2.5 Goals in this fixture, and I can’t see defensives coming out on top in this one.

Crewe vs Plymouth

There was a huge discrepancy between Crewe’s home and away form last season, with the Railwaymen proving far more effective in Cheshire than on their travels. Dave Artell’s young side beat Morecambe 6-0 on the opening day of last season, and whilst I’m not expecting another thrashing, they should be involved in an entertaining game at Gresty Road. They netted 75% of their season’s total goals at home, and were always a force to be reckoned with here. Plymouth are one of the title favourites, and after being relegated from League One, they’ll be hoping to get off to a decent start on Saturday. Ryan Lowe was in charge of Bury last season, and the Shakers weren’t quite as good on the road as they were at Gigg Lane. The scouser has promised to bring an attacking brand of football to Home Park, but his side conceded too many goals on their travels last season, and his preferred style can sometimes leave gaps at the back. The Pilgrims had trouble keeping clean sheets last season, and I’m not sure they’ll keep the hosts off the score-sheet here.

Northampton vs Walsall

Keith Curle’s Northampton never really threatened the play-offs last season, but many believe that this will their year. The Cobblers have a decent squad in place, and they have added some interesting players this summer including Matty Warburton who netted 18 goals for Stockport last season. They ended the season with just one win in their last four home matches, and it was their defence which continued to let them down. They kept just one clean sheet in their last six matches at Sixfields whilst they netted six times in their last three games. Walsall begin life under Darrell Clarke, and he’s been saying all of the right things ahead of this campaign. He’s put together a young squad, which has the potential to be a little inconsistent but should provide plenty of entertainment. The Saddlers didn’t score many goals at the end of last season, but this is a fresh start, and a largely new-look side.
