Reasons for our Relegation Betting Tips

Below are the reasons for the selections on the ante-post relegation accumulator ahead of the new season.

Championship Relegation – Hull City

There are a fair few contenders on the list when it comes to relegation from the Championship. Wigan are likely to be in the bottom eight once again whilst Pep Clotet could struggle at St.Andrews. I do think Barnsley will be fine, whilst there’s a decent spirit about Charlton (despite off-the-field issues).

HULL CITY haven’t lost many of their key men yet, although Jarred Bowen is unlikely to be at the club by mid-August. Crucially, they have lost Nigel Adkins. ‘Mr. Positivity’ packed his bags this summer, and will be sorely missed. He was responsible for Hull’s overachieving last season, and their home form was absolutely key.

Grant McCann didn’t have a good time at Peterborough, but after a very decent season at Doncaster, the Humberside club have taken a punt on the Northern Irishman. Whether Tom Eaves can make the step up remains to be seen, whilst Kamil Grosicki’s performances will depend on how committed to the cause he is.

I do think they have some quality players, but I think the loss of Adkins is significant, and I think they might struggle this time around.

League One Relegation – Rochdale

The League One relegation market is slightly skewed by the fact that the future of Bury is still in doubt. Bolton are also far from secure and have fewer than ten players in their squad at the time of writing. However, they do have some decent trialists, and may just cobble together a decent enough squad to survive (even with the deduction).

Even if the two North West clubs drop, that still leaves two places to avoid, and there should be another competitive scramble for safety come May.

ROCHDALE are a club who have managed to avoid dropping down to League Two recently, and there’s undeniably a spirit about them, however, this could be the year that they fall. I like them as a club, and I’d prefer to see them stay up, but they cannot keep relying upon Ian Henderson.

They haven’t done much business, having avoided losing too many players, but the lack of additions is a worry. Rekeil Pyke might prove to be a prolific frontman, but they could do with some more creativity in the centre of the park.

Brian Barry-Murphy did superbly well when he took over from Keith Hill, but his success was largely based on keeping things tight. They look the weakest of the teams that survived last season, and they could fill one of those dreaded relegation spots this season.

League Two Relegation – Cambridge United

I noticed that the majority of League Two fans are tipping Macclesfield and Morecambe to suffer the drop this season, but I’m never going to write off Jim Bentley’s side. They always find a way to just about survive, and this year should be more of the same.

However, I do fear for CAMBRIDGE UNITED. Yes, fans are excited about the prospect of Wes Hoolahan signing, but the Irishman hasn’t put pen to paper yet despite being with the squad throughout the course of the summer.

Calderwood’s men do look a little light with just three strikers on their books at the time of writing. A lot of responsibility is likely to fall upon the shoulders of Jabo Ibehre, who doesn’t have a great injury record in recent years. Harvey Knibbs is an interesting recruit, whilst there are a number of talented players in the squad such as Reggie Lambe and Georgie Maris. However, they scored so few goals last season, and they’ve lost Jevani Brown, who was joint top-scorer last year.

It was a really poor season for Cambridge, and they haven’t really strengthened substantially so far. They still have time to do some stellar business, but the price on the men in Amber to drop is too tempting.
