Southampton vs Manchester United Betting Tips

United’s season got off to a good start but is threatening to grind to an early halt. An emphatic 4-0 win over Chelsea was flattering but showed promising signs. The Red Devils took the lead against Wolves and were in control in the first half. Having conceded to a Ruben Neves wonder strike, United struggled to force themselves back into the game. Pogba missed a crucial penalty which lead to much discussion over who should be taking. Cue another missed penalty the following week, this time by Marcus Rashford. United were poor against Palace and conceded a stoppage time goal at Old Trafford to lose 2-1

Southampton started their season with an unexpected 3-0 loss to Burnley. The Saints improved against Liverpool but were unable to take anything from the match. A 2-0 away win against Brighton got their season up and running, but it was certainly helped by the first half dismissal of Florin Andone.

Despite United’s poor display last week, they should have enough to manage against Southampton. Solskjaer will be looking for an immediate response against a Saints side that has failed to impress thus far. The possible absence of Anthony Martial could hurt United, but Juan Mata and Mason Greenwood are waiting in the wings.

The Red Devils have been far from solid in defence. They were fortunate to keep a clean sheet in their opening match and have conceded in the subsequent two. With Southampton finding their feet in front of goal, we expect both teams to score in this one. BTTS is priced at 3/4 and is another consideration for our Southampton vs Man United predictions.

Southampton have yet to show much defensive resilience of their own. They were able to keep out Brighton but played against ten men for much of the game. For those reasons, we’re backing a 2-1 United win in this one.
