Could James Rodriguez be on his way to Arsenal?

Next Arsenal manager odds

Suffering a 1-0 loss to West Ham last weekend and news now breaking that transfer guru Sven Mislintat is on his way out, Arsenal fans were not expecting to have much to cheer about in January.

Many in North London have been left upset by the news that both Aaron Ramsey and Petr Cech will be leaving at the end of the season.

However, while it has been a very worrying start to 2019 for Arsenal, the Gunners might finally have something to cheer about.

Desperate to try and book a return to the Champions League, Unai Emery has been linked with a potential swoop for Bayern Munich’s James Rodriguez.

Bayern Munich discuss Rodriguez to Arsenal rumour

Even more shocking, it has been reported that Colombia’s 2012 World Cup hero could be heading to the Emirates for just £3million.

With Emery announcing that Arsenal would be unable to add any permanent additions in January, the former PSG boss would be open to bringing in some loan options.

It is believed that the Gunners are willing to take on the final six months of Rodriguez’s loan deal from Real Madrid, if the Bundesliga champions are willing to cut their losses.

Rodriguez is currently 18 months into a two-year loan deal at Bayern, however, the 27-year-old has struggled to make any real impact under new boss Niko Kovac.

Despite still being billed as one of the most creative players across Europe, Rodriguez has started just five Bundesliga games this season.

Although many at Arsenal would be excited to see an established name move to North London, Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has played down the suggestions.

Asked if Bayern would take up their £37.1million purchase option, Salihamidzic said:

“We will look at the second half of the season and we will draw the right conclusions.”

Salihamidzic did though pour cold water on suggestions they could buy Rodriguez and then look to sell for a profit, he added:

“This is not Bayern’s style. If we decide to sign a player, then he also remains a part of Bayern.”

The future of Mesut Ozil

With much speculation surrounding Arsenal’s move for Rodriguez, questions over Mesut Ozil’s future at the Emirates have many fans talking.

Earlier in the week, it was reported by the Daily Mail that Emery was open to offloading the playmaker in a bid to cut down on the Gunners’ wage budget.

Not even given a place among the substitutes for Saturday’s 1-0 loss to West Ham, Ozil is currently earning £350,000 per week and his relationship with Emery appears to be deteriorating.

Despite struggling to cement a spot in Arsenal’s side, the 30-year-old took to his social media in an attempt to show his commitment.

One man who appears to have his future already decided is fellow midfielder, Aaron Ramsey.

Arsenal’s longest standing servant has reportedly undergone a secret medical with Juventus and the Welshman is expected to sign a five-year deal on Friday.

Clearly looking to strengthen his midfield options, Emery still remains in negotiations to bring Barcelona’s Denis Suarez to the Premier League.
