Unai Emery on the verge of bringing Denis Suarez to Arsenal

Next Arsenal manager odds

With the end of the transfer window looming upon us, it appears that Arsenal have finally found a breakthrough in their attempt to bring Denis Suarez to the Emirates.

ESPN are reporting that the Barcelona winger is set to complete his Premier League switch on an initial loan deal until the end of the season.

Arsenal will have the option of buying the 25-year-old in the summer for around €25 million (£21.7m) but the clause is not mandatory and they will pay a €2m (£1.7m) loan fee up front.

Denis Suarez gets his move to Arsenal

News of Suarez’s imminent arrival in North Lonon will come as a huge relief for Arsenal fans after discussions appeared to have broken down last week.

Barcelona were only willing to let the midfielder leave temporarily, but only if any prospective deal included an obligatory option to buy.

However, along with getting his long-awaited move to the Gunners, the former Manchester City academy product has extended his deal at the Nou Camp by a further year until 2021, freeing up a move to Arenal.

One of the biggest hurdles in the negotiations was Barcelona’s reluctance to have Suarez return to Catalonia in the summer with just a year remaining on his contract.

Playing just 257 minutes of La Liga football this season, Suarez will now be reunited with Unai Emery, a manager he knows very well.

Spending a year under Emery during his loan spell at Sevilla, the midfielder played a crucial role in Los Hispalenses’ Europa League success back in 2015.

Speaking back in 2015, Suarez told UEFA’s official website that he believes Emery is one of the best coaches across Europe.

“He is one of the best coaches around, he really gets the best out of us.

“He considers each and every one of his players and always puts those who are in the best possible shape in his starting line-up.

“I have been playing for him for a year and I am really happy.

“He always talks to you, both in good moments – to prevent you from being distracted – and bad, to help you recover.

“The way he treats players is exceptional.”

Despite heavy interest from fellow La Liga side Real Betis, the one-cap Spanish international made it clear to both Arsenal and Barcelona that he wanted to secure a move to the Premier League.

If the Gunners can finalize a deal before Thursday’s deadline, then the 25-year-old will be expected to make his debut against Manchester City next week.

Arsenal still keen to land Ivan Perisic

Along with bringing Suarez to the Emirates, it appears that Arsenal aren’t done with their transfer business just yet.

The Gunners still remain in negotiations with Inter Milan over a potential deal to bring World Cup finalist Ivan Perisic to the Premier League.

With the 29-year-old handing in a transfer request at the San Siro, the Croatian midfielder has made it no secret that he is desperate to play under Emery.

Perisic has featured in 18 of Inter Milan’s 21 Serie A matches this season but was an unused substitute for their 1-0 loss away at Torino on Sunday.

However, much like Arsenal’s deal to bring Suarez over from Barcelona, the Serie A giants are reluctant to allow Perisic to leave on an initial loan deal.

Luciano Spalletti is not interested in allowing Perisic to leave on loan without Arsenal being required to purchase the winger for a set fee of around £35 million at the end of the season.

Now sat just three points adrift of climbing back into the top-four, could Perisic and Suarez lead Arsenal’s Champions League charge?
