Derby vs Southampton Predictions and Betting Tips: FA Cup Preview

Derby vs Southampton predictions and betting tips for this FA Cup match on Saturday afternoon with a goals prediction and anytime goalscorer included.

Expert Tipster Prediction: This is an intruiging FA Cup tie between a lively Championship outfit and a Premier League side who are still adjusting to life under new management. Ralph Hasenhuttl has promised to respect the competition and although he is likely to make changes, he’s promised that he won’t play a second-string side. The Rams have already proven to be dangerous cup opponents this season after knocking Manchester United out of the Carabao Cup before narrowly exiting at the hands of Chelsea. Frank Lampard’s side are full of youthful exuberance and this is the sort of tie that they will relish. At home, they’ve been very strong this campaign and there should be a decent crowd roaring them on. I think Lampard and his side can avoid defeat here and take this tie to a replay at the very least.

Derby vs Southampton Predictions

Derby do have a habit of drawing Premier League sides in cup competitions and after dispatching of Manchester United in the Carabao Cup, they came close to taking Chelsea to extra time at Stamford Bridge. In the FA Cup, they’ve knocked out West Brom and held Leicester to a 2-2 draw over the last couple of years and they should be able to remain competitive here. The Rams have been involved with some high-scoring games at Pride Park of late and they’ve suffered just one defeat in twelve here. Southampton are likely to make changes for this game and will be without Maya Yoshida and Pierre-Emile Hojberg whilst Danny Ings is in a race to be fit. Hasenhuttl has promised that he will take this competition seriously and he’s spoken about his fondness of the FA Cup although he hasn’t ruled out making numerous changes to his side. He pointed to the recent fixture congestion and suggested that his side will look very different to the one that held Chelsea to a goalless draw in West London on Wednesday night. The Saints have a decent record on the road in the FA Cup but they are under new management and Derby are likely to be lively. Derby Draw No Bet keeps the home side in the competition and it’s the first of our Derby vs Southampton betting tips for Saturday.

Derby vs Southampton Betting Tips

Derby have plenty of talent in the final third and they’ve displayed plenty of creative touches in the Championship recently. Lampard has shuffled his pack numerous times and despite the absence of Tom Lawrence, there is still plenty of creativity in their ranks. However, at the back, they’ve struggled. Richard Keogh and Fikayo Tomori have struggled to keep sides off the scoresheet and they’ve kept just four clean sheets at home all season. It’s just one shutout since September 18th here and that came in the East Midlands derby. Southampton have plenty of firepower and are likely to start either Charlie Austin or Shane Long who thrive on the service of Nathan Redmond. Since Hasenhuttl arrived, the Saints have seen BTTS land in four of their last five games and this could go the same way. Both Teams to Score? Yes is the second of our Derby vs Southampton predictions.

It is difficult to second-guess who will start for Southampton so we’re going to focus on the Derby players for the anytime goalscorer market. Frank Lampard has rotated his squad in recent weeks and Martyn Waghorn could return for this tie. The former Ipswich man has been a bit-part player so far this season but he’s shown an appetite for scoring whenever he’s started. The striker could be given the nod in this one and is also likely to be on penalty duty. Two of the 28-year old’s four goals have arrived in cup competitions so far and he looks a decent price to find the net in this one.

Derby vs Southampton Match Preview

The away side are the favourites for this side and it’s understandable considering their position in the pyramid and their recent improvement under Hasenhuttl. They can be backed at 17/10 to progress to the next round. They beat Fulham 1-0 last season at this stage of the competition. Derby are hard to beat at home and they should be lively. They’ve 7/4 to win this game whilst the draw can be backed at 12/5 with the majority of bookmakers.

Despite picking up a 0-0 draw at Chelsea in midweek, Southampton’s games have generally been entertaining and high-scoring throughout December. Over 2.5 Goals could potentially be overpriced here at 21/20.

Danny Ings will face a late fitness test here and if he starts, he will be popular in the anytime goalscorer market. He’s 9/2 to net the opener in this contest and is likely to step up if Southampton win a penalty. Charlie Austin is close behind at 6/1 whilst Derby’s Jack Marriott is available at 5/1 to break the deadlock.
