Harrogate vs Portsmouth Prediction Preview – 11/11/2019 FA Cup

Simon Weaver has done a fabulous job at Harrogate Town and he can elevate his status further by overseeing a cup upset on Monday night. Although opposition fans taunt the former defender, accusing the club of nepotism (his Dad is the chairman), it’s hard to argue with his record at the club. He’s won 31 of his last 69 games in charge of the club and is currently picked up an average of 1.59 points per match. His side are always entertaining and incredibly difficult to beat at the CNG Stadium.

This was far from the ideal draw for Pompey, who would have preferred an easier assignment. Kenny Jackett’s side have improved in recent weeks and they are starting to put an underwhelming start to the season behind them. They’re unbeaten in their last four League One games and come off the back of a 4-1 hammering of struggling Southend on Tuesday night. They travelled to non-league opposition (with largely the same squad) and won 4-0 in the first round of the competition last season so will be feeling confident of another hassle-free evening in the Yorkshire Spa town.

Harrogate’s Home Form

Although they are operating two levels below their opponents, Harrogate will not make it easy for Portsmouth. They’ve won four home games in a row coming into this game and have conceded just a single goal here since the end of August. Although the quality of the opposition is stepped up a notch here, they will aim to keep it tight once again and frustrate the third tier side. Only Barrow have conceded fewer home goals than Harrogate in the National League this season. If they can avoid conceding an early goal, they should have enough experience to grow into the game and potentially cause a shock.

Has Jackett Finally Found the Way to Get John Marquis Scoring?

John Marquis switch South Yorkshire for the south coast this summer although the striker has had a difficult start to life at Fratton Park. Some fans have been questioning whether he can cut it at the club after scoring just two goals (one in the EFL Cup) in his first 15 appearances in all competitions.

However, he appears to be finding his feet and has now scored twice in his last four outings and is suddenly looking much sharper. He’s averaging 2.1 shots per game (only Ronan Curtis has a higher average) and will surely get some opportunities in this game.

It’ll be interesting to see if Kenny Jackett rotates his squad for this one. Ellis Harrison looked impressive in midweek and may be a better option for this one. He is 9/5 with Betfair to score anytime in this game and therefore offers slightly better value.
