Where Can I Play Placepot Tips?
Placepot is a pool bet that is available to play through Tote. However, many other bookmakers also offer this, who then pass the stake on to the pool. However, most players do just go straight through Tote.
You can place Cheltenham Placepot bets at the following bookies:
How Does Placepot Work?
Placepot is a type of bet in which players must pick a horse to place in the first six races of a meeting in order to see a return. The winnings are then based upon the number of people within the pool.
You are able to make one or more selections in each race, with each selection referred to as a “line”. The more lines you have, in effect the higher chance you have of winning, but in turn your stake will also be higher as this is based on each line you play.
In order to calculate the number of lines you have, you need to multiply the number of lines you have in the first race by the number in the second, then the answer of that by the number of lines in race three, and so on through to race six. As you can probably tell, it can get expensive if you aren’t careful with how much you are staking.
For example:
Race
Lines
Total Lines
1
2
2
2
2
4 (2 x 2 =4)
3
1
4 (4 x 1 = 4)
4
2
8 (4 x 2 = 8)
5
3
24 (8 x 3 = 24)
6
3
72 (24 x 3 = 72)
Therefore, in this example you are effectively playing 72 lines, giving you 72 chances of winning.
How Much Does Tote Placepot Cost?
Each line has a minimum and maximum stake. The minimum stake per line is 10p, with the minimum total stake overall being £1. Therefore, that £1 could be made up of multiple lines, or simply a £1 bet on one line.
There is no maximum bet on the offer.
What Places Are Counted With Tote Placepot?
As the Placepot is all about ensuring the horses you pick place in each of the six races, it’s important to know what places are offered out across the races. That is dependent on the number of runners in the race.
If there are four or fewer horses in the race, the places that count is simply the winner. With races of runners of 16 or more, that extends to the top four horses within the race. The full table can be found below…
No. of Runners
Places counted in Placepot
1-4

5-7
Horses in positions 1-2
8+
Horses in positions 1-3
16+ (handicap races only)

How Much Do I Win on the Tote Placepot?
The amount you will win on the Placepot is determined by how much has been staked on it. The winnings are then divided by the total number of winners. 27% is deducted from the total pool by Tote, with the 73% remaining then divided by the winners.
Therefore, if there was a pool pot of £100,000, £73,000 of that would be split between the winners. The split is based upon the value of each player’s Placepot lines, so how much they have staked.
How much you will win can be calculated by how much the Placepot is paying per £1. For example, a Placepot may be paying £1,000 to a £1 stake. If you have four winning lines that have seen a 10p stake, then you effectively have 40p’s worth of winning bets. The amount you win is then a ratio of that £1,000 to a £1, meaning you would collect £400 in winnings.
