Our Birmingham vs Brentford bet builder tips, predictions and best bets rest on the referee rather than the sides.
Tim Robinson books 4.50 players a game against the 3.45 these two average between them, and his published career figure of 3.08 understates him by more than any official we have measured. We make it 0-2.
Birmingham City vs Brentford
Team figures cover each side’s last 20 league matches. Birmingham’s are Championship figures and Brentford’s Premier League.
Birmingham vs Brentford Key Stats and Insights

- 12.00 fouls a game for Birmingham, the highest figure in our records from any side.
- 7 clean sheets in 20 for Brentford, who also failed to score seven times — the most goalless-at-one-end record on the page.
- 7 goals in 9 away games for Birmingham at 0.78 a match, against 14 in 11 at St Andrew’s.
- 3.05 big chances a game created by Brentford against Birmingham’s 1.85, the widest creation gap in the tie.
- 1.77 expected goals for Brentford against 1.50 actually scored — a side underperforming its chances by a quarter of a goal a game.
- 8 yellows in 947 minutes for Vitaly Janelt at 0.67 per 90, the highest card rate in either squad.
Birmingham vs Brentford Bet Builder Tips
Brentford to Win — Market 50.2%, Our Model 52%
Brentford took 1.50 goals a game and conceded 1.30, with 3.05 big chances created a match against Birmingham’s 1.85. They are a Premier League side facing a Championship one and the market prices that at just over evens.
Run on the figures alone the model has this close to level — Birmingham 1.33 and Brentford 1.29 — because Birmingham’s Championship defensive numbers are strong at 0.99 expected goals against. The adjustment that gets us to 52% is a strength differential rather than the regression formula, since neither club has changed division and there is no destination league to regress towards.
What beats it is rotation and a home crowd. Birmingham lost only six of twenty and drew seven, and 71.10 final third entries a game is the highest figure in either squad — a side that gets into dangerous areas often, even if 1.85 big chances says they do little with it once there.
Under 2.5 Goals — 12 of Birmingham’s Last 20, 9 of Brentford’s
Birmingham scored 1.05 a game with six blanks in twenty. Brentford kept seven clean sheets and failed to score seven times themselves, which is an unusual combination and points at matches decided by a single goal at one end.
Neither side creates in volume. Birmingham manage 1.85 big chances a match and Brentford 3.05, but Brentford also miss 2.00 of theirs — the widest gap between chances created and chances taken on the page. Two sides converting like that produce fewer goals than their shot counts suggest.
The argument against is the one number that does not fit. Brentford’s 1.77 expected goals for sits well above the 1.50 they actually scored, so they have been underperforming. If that corrects tonight against Championship opposition, this is the leg that fails, and the over 2.5 goals market is where it fails.
A. Priske 2+ Fouls — 2 or More in 5 of His Last 6
One, three, three, two, three and four fouls in his last six, at 2.34 per 90 across 1,075 minutes. At least two in five of them, and the one that fell short was a single foul in a seventy-nine minute appearance.
Birmingham commit 12.00 fouls a game, the highest figure in our records, and Priske carries the largest share of it. That is the part that makes this more than a player-form bet — the volume comes from how the side plays rather than from one man having a physical spell.
He is up against Brentford’s 3.05 big chances and 27.10 touches in the box, which means plenty of situations where a foul is the cheapest way out. The risk is minutes rather than rate: at 1,075 across the sample he is not an ever-present, and a substitute appearance leaves this short.
V. Janelt to Be Carded — 0.67 per 90, the Highest Rate Here
Seven yellows in 947 minutes, above every other player in either squad, and booked in three of his last six. He commits 1.52 fouls per 90 with 4, 0, 1, 2, 1 and 3 across the same run — a midfielder who accumulates rather than one who blows up occasionally.
Robinson is the reason this is a build leg rather than a pointer. At 4.50 a game across 66 recent matches he is a full card above what these two sides average, and his Premier League and Championship rates agree almost exactly at 4.46 and 4.55 — so the step down in level makes no difference to him.
What beats it is a comfortable evening. A Brentford side two goals up against Championship opposition does not need to foul, and Janelt’s three blanks in six all came in matches Brentford controlled. The leg needs the tie to be a contest.
How the Four Fit Together
Two team legs and two prop bets, and unusually for a build they do not overlap much. Brentford to win and under 2.5 goals sit together comfortably — a 1-0 or 2-0 satisfies both — while the two card and foul legs depend on the match being competitive rather than on the scoreline.
That is worth knowing because it cuts both ways. The price is longer than a correlated build would give you, but there is no single outcome that lands all four. Our bet builder tips page explains why we usually prefer the correlated version.
The legs most likely to fail are Priske and Janelt, and for the same reason: Brentford winning early makes the match quiet, and a quiet match produces neither fouls nor cards.
Birmingham vs Brentford Prediction
We are predicting 0-2 to Brentford. Our model gives them 52%, the draw 24% and Birmingham 24%, from expected goals of 1.05 and 1.65. The market says 50.2%, 25.2% and 24.5% — within two points on every outcome, which on a cross-division tie is better agreement than we usually get. Worth comparing UK bookmakers before you place it.
