The World Cup is almost upon us and we’re certainly excited. It’s a tournament that is already too close to call, with a number of nations well and truly contenders to get the job done out in Qatar. Throughout the tournament we’ll be providing you with all the latest odds, whether you’re looking to bet on the outright market or are just looking for day-to-day World Cup betting tips. With the days now counting down, we’re taking a look towards the Group Stage, and we’ve hand picked our top five games to watch as countries look to make it through to the knockout rounds…  

Wales vs England

Starting in Group B, we’re naturally going to choose England v Wales in what should be a real thriller. It’s the final game of the Group Stage for both sides and they’ll be hoping that qualification is already wrapped up. England will naturally be the favourites, but the Welsh know how to cause a shock in tournament football having done so over the past few tournaments. The Red Wall will be out in full force as Wales enjoy their first World Cup since the 1950s and England will certainly need to be careful that they don’t slip up.

Spain vs Germany

Spain take on Germany in their second fixture and in reality this will be a clash for who finishes first in Group E.  Both nations haven’t had the best tournaments of late after dominating the 2010s and they’ll be keen to return to the top, both with relatively young sides. You could get a real indication on how far one of these two can go with victory and it’ll certainly be a game to keep an eye on.

Croatia v Belgium

The Croatians made it all the way to the final last time out, but that was with an ageing side of whom a number of players will be missing. That said, they know how to cause an upset and with Belgium running out of time with the current crop of players to win a major tournament, it could prove an exciting game. The Belgians are favourites to win Group F, but again it’s a battle for top spot in this one.

Senegal vs Netherlands

Jumping back to World Cup 2022 Group A, and day two of the tournament, the Netherlands taking on Senegal could be a real tasty encounter, with the Dutch looking to make a stamp on a major tournament for the first time in a while, while Senegal come into the World Cup as the winners of the Africa Cup of Nations and will be looking to replicate their performance of 2002. Senegal will fancy their chance of progression so perhaps won’t be too aggrieved by a loss to Louis van Gaal’s men, but they’ll certainly be fighting to win, and we wouldn’t put it past them with the side they have.

England vs USA

England don’t have an easy group and while they are favourites in the Group B betting odds to navigate it, there are definitely hurdles in the Welsh and the USA, who the Three Lions face second in the competition. England have stumbled against the United States in tournament football before and Gareth Southgate will be keen to avoid that. The USA will be well up for making that happen though and it’ll be a rather tense affair.
