It’s a trip to face table toppers Arsenal this Tuesday for Aston Villa as they look to maintain their excellent run of form. Villa are three points behind the league leaders in third.
Arsenal have had an excellent season so far and find themselves top of the pile – and will be going into the new year – should they win again in this one.
Villa have also had an excellent campaign and have won their last 11 matches in all competitions. If they win here, it’ll be a real statement of intent.

I’m backing Arsenal to end Villa’s long winning streak in this one. It’ll be a very close game here between first and third in the league, but I think Arsenal will come out on top and extend their lead at the top. The Gunners have won their last five in all competitions, including a victory on penalties against Crystal Palace. Their last defeat came away to Villa on 6 December, and they’ll be looking for revenge here just three weeks later. I think the league leaders will win this one and strengthen their chances of going on to win the title.

I think Viktor Gyokeres has a strong chance of having at least one shot on target here. The Sweden striker has scored five goals in 16 Premier League appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side this season, with another two in four in the Champions League. He has had 27 shots in total in the league, with 11 on target. In the Champions League, he has taken 13 shots with six on target. I expect this one to be end-to-end, with plenty of chances for both teams, and Gyokeres is good odds for a shot on target.

I’m backing Arsenal’s Martin Zubimendi to pick up a booking in this fixture. The Spaniard has picked up six yellow cards so far this season, with three in the Premier League and three in the Champions League. In the league, he has made a total of 18 fouls, an average of exactly one foul per match. He averages more than two fouls per match in the Champions League, with 12 fouls in five appearances in that competition so far this season. This won’t be an easy game for him and his Arsenal side, and I expect him to make several fouls. 9/2 is good odds for him to pick up his seventh card of the season.
