Both semi-finals went into extra time in midweek, with Italy needing penalties to beat Spain and England beating Denmark 2-1 in extra-time. The Italians have had an extra day to prepare for Sunday’s final but England do have home advantage at Wembley. Roberto Mancini’s side have not lost for over 30 matches now so it would be no surprise to see this game being low scoring and going into extra-time. England have conceded just once in the European Championships so far and that was a free kick against Denmark.

This is expected to be a very close game with both sides looking to focus on their defensive work as a priority. Italy will look to play on the counter attack and England will use their slow defensive passing to open up spaces further up the pitch. Neither team will give an inch and we could be going the distance once again. It would be no surprise at all for this match to finish 0-0 or 1-1 after the 90 minutes.  

Harry Maguire to have 1+ shot on target

England’s central defender has landed this bet for us in both the quarter-final and semi-final matches and he will once again be England’s main threat from set-pieces. He drew a brilliant save out of Kasper Schmeichel in the second half against Denmark. England are always strong at set-pieces and Maguire scored from one in the match against Ukraine, he will be looking to trouble Donnarumma in the Italy goal on Sunday.  

Federico Chiesa to have 1+ shot on target

Chiesa has been one of many impressive players for Italy at Euro 2020 so far, and he scored a wonderful goal against Spain in the semi-final. Italy’s quick counter-attacks will be a threat for England and Chiesa is usually in and around them. He had two shots on target in that match and although he didn’t manage a shot on target against Belgium, he did have 5 attempts on goal, of which two were blocked.  

Kalvin Phillips to be booked

The Leeds midfielder has gained a lot of plaudits through the tournament and his breaking up of play has been integral to England’s progression. Referees have been very lenient with cards throughout the competition so far but Phillips does make a lot of fouls and with the Italian play-acting likely to be in full flow once again, he is a good bet to pick up a card in the final.
