Cardiff to win
I’m backing the home side to maintain their 100% home record on Saturday afternoon. They have had somewhat of an overhaul in the transfer window, bringing in over 10 new faces. They’ve added some real Championship experience to their ranks in the likes of Romaine Sawyers, Callum O’Dowda and Mahlon Romeo. Manager Steve Morison has made it clear on the style of football that he wants to play and has brought the players in to suit. Historically they’ve never been a side known to play attractive football, however you can already see that changing just by looking at their opening two matches. They’re already averaging more possession of the ball than they did last season, which shows a real statement of intent. Cardiff have had the better of Birmingham in recent years. You have to look back to October 2017 to see Birmingham’s last win between the two, and astonishingly back to September 2008 since they last won a league match at the home of The Bluebirds. I can’t see that record changing in this one.Over 2.5 goals
This selection landed in game week two for both of these sides, and I can see there being more of the same on Saturday. Goals have been aplenty between the two in recent years, with over 2.5 goals landing in five of the last seven head to heads. Cardiff’s newest recruit, Kion Etete, will look to get off the mark whilst Birmingham’s experienced strike partnership in Troy Deeney and Scott Hogan are proven goal scorers at this level, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see any of the three mentioned above find the net. I’m expecting an entertaining game, so I do think there will be goals in South Wales once again this time around.Sheyi Ojo & Callum O’Dowda both to have 1+ shots on target
I’m fancying Cardiff’s new wingers, Sheyi Ojo and Callum O’Dowda, to cause the Birmingham defence problems in this fixture. Ojo has finally found home at Cardiff having been loaned to seven different clubs in the past, including Millwall where he enjoyed his football last term. He didn’t manage to score in the league for them, but is a player who likes to get on the ball and be very direct, driving at the opposition full backs. He’s had three attempts this year already, only one of those finding the target, but I expect him to double his tally on Saturday. O’Dowda has also made the permanent switch to Cardiff this summer, joining from rivals Bristol City. He’s very technically gifted and has a bit of a wand of a left foot, and is another who isn’t afraid to fire from all angles. He opened his account for his new side in last week’s 2-1 defeat to Reading and I fancy the 27-year-old Irishman to test John Ruddy in the Birmingham goal.Longshot Bookings Treble
