Villa are having a decent run in the Champions League this season with four wins, a draw and two defeats from their opening seven games. They are ninth and have a very good chance of finishing in the top eight and automatically qualifying for the next round. To do that, they are 4/7. A win for Celtic could also see them in the top eight, albeit its incredibly unlikely at 250/1.

Aston Villa vs Celtic Predictions

Celtic will have their work cut out with a very difficult trip south here, and I’m backing Villa to come out on top at home. Villa have won four of seven in the Champions League and haven’t lost any of their three home fixtures in the competitions, with wins over Bayern Munich and Bologna and a 0-0 draw with Juventus. Celtic haven’t had a bad campaign and find themselves in 18^th, with three wins, three draws and just one defeat from seven. That said, they haven’t won away from home in the Champions League, with two draws and one 7-1 defeat to Dortmund. I expect this one to be a closer affair than that, but I think Villa will come out on top. Ollie Watkins is the man we’re backing to have one or more shots on target here. The England striker has scored 10 goals in the Premier League this season, having 28 shots on target, an average of over one per game. Villa will have a lot of the ball and create a lot of chances here, and I think Watkins is great odds to have at least one shot on target. We’ve gone for two players to be carded – Celtic full backs Greg Taylor and Alistair Johnston. Both will be in for a torrid time at the back against a pacey Villa front like, and both are partial to a foul and a card. Johnston has been carded four times this season, twice in the Scottish Premiership, and twice in his seven Champions League appearances. Taylor also has four bookings to his name, three in the league and one in the Champions League. I think both will be forced into a foul or two here, and they’re both great odds to be carded.
