The first game of the new Champions League season has suddenly become a crucial, must-win game for Thomas Tuchel. The Englishman has managed to score 23 times in the competition, which is, ironically, the same amount as Chelsea’ all-time top scorer, Frank Lampard, and one less than two-time Champions League winner, Paul Scholes. In fact, only Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney have scored more in the Champions League with 30 each, and given how Sterling is only seven of that feat, he could end up breaking the record for most goals by an Englishman in Europe’s elite competition in the coming seasons.

 

CHELSEA TO WIN

Although this is far from an easy away trip for Chelsea given the start to the season for Zagreb, the Blues are still clear favourites to claim all three points. What’s more, Havertz tends to turn up in the Champions League too as he registered 1.1 shots on target last season and tallied up three goals from three starts in the competition in 2021/22.

Havertz should, at the very least, get another shot on goal in Croatia.
