Fantasy Football Captain Selection Advice for Gameweek 17
Once again, there are plenty of exciting captain options as we approach the halfway stage of the FPL season. With the Christmas fixtures coming up there were some big scoring players last weekend. Will any of Kane, Son, Rashford, Martial or Vardy get the captains vote for this weekend?
This weekend there are home matches for Manchester United (Rashford and Martial), Liverpool (Mane and Salah), Leicester (Vardy and Maddison) and Chelsea (Abraham and Mount), so there are plenty of options for your Gameweek 17 captain, but which player should you choose? See our GW17 captains tips below:
Option 1 – Marcus Rashford (8.9m) vs Everton
The United star is arguably in the form of his career right now. Six returns in his last eight games, including two double digit-hauls, is certainly captain material. Rashford is now level on points with Aubameyang this season and plays an Everton defence who have struggled for form. However, Duncan Ferguson’s temporary appointment brought a positive result in his first game and could cause United issues. It is as yet unknown if Everton will have a new manager in place by the time this fixture kicks-off on Sunday afternoon, but with Everton putting up such a good performance last weekend and favourable fixtures for other potential FPL captains, it might be best to look elsewhere this Gameweek.
Option 2 – Sadio Mané (12.3m) vs Watford
Mané captainers will have been relieved to see their man remain on the bench last weekend, allowing the likes of Jamie Vardy to come in as skipper following another good points haul for the Englishman. The Liverpool wide man was afforded a rest during the Reds’ busy schedule but will be back in the starting XI at home to Watford. Five returns from his last six is a consistently solid return ahead of a meeting with the league’s bottom side. Mo Salah could be rested for this one with the World Club Cup coming up and keep an eye on Jurgen Klopp’s press conference as the likes of Van Dijk or Robertson could also be given the afternoon off.
Option 3 – Jamie Vardy (10.1m) vs Norwich
Eight. Vardy has extended his scoring streak to eight consecutive matches and shows no signs of slowing down. 16 goals in 16 games this season has put Leicester in the conversation of Premier League title challengers. Over 50% of managers now own Vardy with the former England international having recorded three double-digit hauls in his last five games. 19th place Norwich are next up and this looks like another likely points haul for the striker. People who still don’t own Vardy much be praying he stops scoring soon, but with Leicester playing so well at the moment, it is hard to see him blanking against a leaky Norwich side.
Recommended FPL Captain for Gameweek 17
The armband is back with Mr. Reliable this week. Jamie Vardy is the safe choice but probably the smart one, too. His goalscoring form speaks for itself and at home to Norwich, there is likely to also be a few people using their Triple Captain chip on the striker.
Should I Triple Captain Vardy this week?
It’s quite tempting to TRIPLE CAPTAIN Vardy and here’s why:
