Top & Bottom at Christmas: A look at the Championship Outrights

Bristol City betting tips

The Championship is a division that continually ebbs and flows. Often a team makes a late charge for the play-offs in the final few months of the season, keen to make it to the promised land of the Premier League.

However, even at Christmas you can get a good idea of the main contenders to go up or down. While we’re not quite at the halfway point yet due to the World Cup break, it’s clear to see who may struggle to survive, and which teams are fighting for automatic promotion.

With Christmas approaching, we take a look at the outright markets in the Championship, and the teams that are being favoured by the bookies

To Win The Championship Odds

The Championship automatic spots are already starting to see a gap develop, with Burnley five points clear of third place, while they’re currently three points ahead of Sheffield United going into the Christmas period.

So, it’s perhaps no surprise to see the two northern sides as favourites to win the Championship title. Vincent Kompany’s men are the current favourites, with Burnley priced at 1/1 with Ladbrokes as it stands.

The Blades are at 5/2, while Norwich and Watford are outsiders at 9/1 and 10/1 respectively. Blackburn, who are currently third in the league, can be backed at 20/1, while Coventry, who are enduring all manner of problems off the pitch are at 40/1.

Championship Promotion Odds

Naturally, all of the teams mentioned above are the favourites to earn promotion, with Burnley, who have looked very good so far this season, the standouts at 1/4 with Ladbrokes. Sheffield United are also odds-on at 4/6, while Norwich (15/8), Watford (2/1) and Blackburn (5/1) sit ahead of Middlesbrough and West Brom who are priced at 6/1 and 7/1 respectively.

Millwall and QPR are both at 8/1 with the bookmaker, while Luton (9/1), Coventry, Swansea and Preston are outsiders, the latter three priced at 10/1.

To Reach The Play-Offs Odds

It’s a similar story in the play-offs and you won’t find much value in Burnley reaching the play-offs with them currently 1/20 with Ladbrokes.

Sheffield United, Norwich and Watford are odds-on too, while it’s teams such as QPR (5/2), Millwall (11/4) and Luton (3/1) where you’ll find the best value with the bookies.

Championship Relegation Odds

At the foot of the Championship table there are some big clubs battling to survive. Huddersfield, Blackpool, Wigan and West Brom have all been Premier League sides in recent years, but could face the drop should their form not improve.

Huddersfield are rock bottom and currently favourites to be relegated at 8/15 with William Hill, while the bookie has got it relatively tight between six other sides who may be relegated.

Wigan top that list, priced at 6/4 to be relegated, while Hull are at 13/8 and both Rotherham and Blackpool are at 7/4.

Birmingham can be backed at 5/1 to be relegated, alongside reading, while West Brom, whose form has picked up in recent times are priced at 20/1 to face the drop.
