Chelsea welcome Dutch outfit Ajax to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday as the Blues look to make it two wins from their opening three Champions League matches.

Ajax aren’t in the best form, and are winless in three, including a 4-0 hammering away to Marseille in their last Champions League fixture. They’ve won just one in their last six, a 2-1 victory over 10-man NAC Breda.

I’m backing Chelsea to win at home against an Ajax side who are struggling for form at the moment. The Blues have won each of their last three, including a 1-0 win at home to Benfica in the Champions League, a game which saw them finish with 10 men following Joao Pedro’s late red card. They’re fifth in the Premier League with four wins from eight, and have lost only one game at home this season. Ajax have won only one in six, and were hammered by Marseille in their last Champions League outing. I expect Chelsea to win comfortably here.

I think taking Wout Weghorst to have one or more shots on target is excellent odds in this one. Ajax might struggle to create a lot of chances, but no doubt they’ll have a few. With five goals in eight in the Eredivisie, Weghorst will be a threat for the Dutch side.
He has had 23 shots in the league, with nine on target – an average of more than one per game. I think this is great odds, and Weghorst has a chance of having at least one shot on target.

Moises Caicedo is someone I often fancy to be carded, and this one is no different. The midfielder has picked up just one booking so far this season, but he has made seven fouls in eight games, an average of just under one foul per game. Last season, he picked up 11 bookings in the league, with a further two in cup competitions and three in the Club World Cup. He does love a card, and I think there’s a good chance of him being booked here.

I think right-back Anton Gaaei is also fantastic odds to be carded at 2/1. He has been booked once in seven matches in the Eredivisie so far this season, after picking up six cards throughout the 2024/25 campaign – five yellows and one red. He has also been carded once in two Champions League fixtures so far this season.
