Another European night under the St James’ lights is upon us, and it’s bound to be another special occasion for Newcastle United as they welcome Portuguese outfit Benfica to the Toon.
Newcastle come into this one in pretty mixed form, with two wins and two defeats from their last four matches. They have won one of their two Champions League fixtures and are 11th in the table.
Benfica are unbeaten in Primeira Liga, with five wins and three draws, leaving them third in the league. In the Champions League, they have lost two from two and are 33rd.
Newcastle vs Benfica Bet Builder Tip
BEST BET BUILDER TIP – Newcastle to win @ 3/5
Newcastle come into this one off the back of a defeat on the road against Brighton, and will be looking to get back to winning ways in front of their home support. They were victorious on the road in their last Champions League fixture – a 0-4 win over Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. Benfica have lost both of their Champions League fixtures so far – a 2-3 defeat to Qarabag and a 1-0 defeat away to Chelsea. I think Newcastle win win this one at home.
ALTERNATIVE BET – Newcastle or draw @ 1/7 – use a bookies promo code to bet on this match.
Benfica are a good side, and it’ll be difficult for Newcastle, although I expect them to manage. If you’re unsure, you could take Newcastle or draw, but the odds drop slightly to 10/1.
Both teams to Score Tip – Yes (3/4)
Newcastle aren’t a side who have been consistently leaking goals this season, but I expect them to go all-out attack here in the hunt for their second Champions League win of the campaign. With that, I do think they will concede. Benfica have scored in eight of their last 10 matches in all competitions, and are the third-highest scorers in Portugal with 13 from eight. I think both teams will get in on the action at a lively St James’ Park.
Newcastle vs Benfica Goalscorer Tip – Nick Woltemade to score (6/4)
Nick Woltemade has been an excellent replacement for Alexander Isak up front for Newcastle so far. The German scored a terrific flick of a goal in their 2-1 defeat to Brighton at the weekend, making it four in his five Premier League appearances. He has also scored one in two in the Champions League, since making the move from Stuttgart in the summer.
Newcastle vs Benfica Yellow Card Tip – Richard Rios to be carded (15/8)
Benfica midfielder Richard Rios is great odds for a booking here at 15/8 for the bet builder tip. The Colombian midfielder has been carded in four of his eight appearances in Primeira Liga this season, making a massive 21 fouls in that time, an average of just under three per match. He has also been carded once in his two Champions League appearances this season. I think this one will be electric from the off, and he’s good odds to pick up yet another booking in the middle of the park.
