Portugal host the Republic of Ireland on Saturday as they look to make it three wins from three in Group F. Ireland are bottom of the group with one point from their opening two games, and you can bet on our betting tips with this 9/1 bet builder.

Portugal come into this one dominating the group so far with two wins and eight goals in their opening two games, conceding just two in the process. They are unbeaten in their last five.

Ireland have won only one of their last five fixtures, with their last victory coming against Bulgaria back in March of this year.

Portugal vs Republic of Ireland Predictions

Team to win Prediction

Portugal will make it three wins from three if they win in this one, and I’m backing them to do the business in this one against the Republic of Ireland. The Portuguese come into this following a 0-5 win over Armenia, and a 2-3 away victory against a strong Hungary side.

Ireland were held to a draw at home to a Hungary side with 10 men, before being defeated on the road to an Armenia side ranked 103rd in the world, 42 places below them. They are on a poor run of form, and an away fixture against Portugal is unlikely to be the game where they can turn it around.

ALTERNATIVE BET – Portugal could win this one very comfortably, and if you think that will happen, you can take them to be winning at half time and full time at 11/20, boosting the bet builder to 12/1.

Anytime Goalscorer Tip – Cristiano Ronaldo to score (3/5)

Is it really a bet builder involving Portugal if you don’t back Ronaldo to score? The national team’s all time top scorer, with 141 goals in 223 appearances, might be in his twilight years, but he’s still very much a threat, if not the main threat.

He has already scored three goals in his two group F appearances, with one against Hungary and two against Armenia. He’s in good form at club level, with four goals from four in the Saudi Pro League. Last season, he bagged 25 goals in 30 league matches.

Ireland have conceded four in their two group openers, and I think they could concede a couple more here with Ronaldo around.

Shots on Target Tip – Bruno Fernandes over 1.5 shots on target  (2/1)

BEST BET BUILDER TIP – Bruno Fernandes over 1.5 shots on target @ 2/1

Bruno Fernandes has scored two goals in his seven Premier League appearances for Manchester United this season. In the league, he has 10 shots on target, giving him an average of over one per game.

He’s yet to score in group F, but has 25 Portugal goals to his name throughout his international career. With Portugal’s dominance in the group so far (despite it only being two games in) I think they’ll create a lot of chances again, adding to their impressive goals tally. Fernandes has good shot on target stats in the league, and I’m backing him to transfer that to the international stage here.

ALTERNATIVE BETS – for higher odds, you can back Bruno to get amongst the goals at 17/10.

Player to be Carded Tip – Liam Scales to be carded (12/5)

Celtic defender Liam Scales is the man we’re taking for a booking, boosting this bet builder to 9/1 with Bet 365. Coming up against the likes of the aforementioned Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes, as well as the likes of Bernardo Silva and Pedro Neto, he’s in for a torrid time. All of those players are skillful and physical, and he could be found on the back foot plenty of times.

He has been carded twice in seven Scottish Premiership appearances this season, with one card from his two outings in the Europa League. He’s yet to be carded in the World Cup qualifiers, but I think there’s a real chance here against an extremely difficult Portugal side who will dominate possession at home.
