I’m backing Newcastle to win in what will be a very difficult trip for Eddie Howe’s side. They’ve been on a good run of late and are unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches. They did lose their last Champions League tie away to Marseille, but have had some strong results in the competition – a 2-0 win over Athletic Club, a 3-0 win against Benfica and a 4-0 hammering of Union Saint-Gilloise. Leverkusen have lost their last two matches in the league, and although they beat City 2-0 in their last Champions League outing, I think Newcastle will get one over on them here. 27/20 is too good to ignore here, in my opinion, as it’s a very winnable game for Newcastle.

I do think it’ll be a close game, and both teams are likely to be on target. Both teams have scored in three of Leverkusen’s five matches in the Champions League, while both teams have scored in two of five of Newcastle’s. Despite that, both teams have scored in eight of Newcastle’s last 10 matches in all competitions. The Magpies have proved that they belong at this level, and I expect them to take the game to Leverkusen here, and it’ll be end-to-end. Both teams to score seems like a solid bet.
ALTERNATIVE BET – Over 2.5 goals in the match @ 8/11
Newcastle haven’t conceded many in this competition, with only four shipped in five games. With that, you might want to think about over 2.5 goals instead at 8/11. There have been over 2.5 goals in eight of Newcastle’s last 10 matches in all competitions.

Nick Woltemade is becoming a fan favourite at St James’ Park following his summer move from Wolfsburg. The frontman has scored seven goals in all competitions, with five in the Premier League, one in the Champions League and one in the Carabao Cup. He has had 11 shots on target in his 19 competitive matches, and I think he will have plenty of opportunities to bring that tally up in this one. At 4/5, I think he’s good odds to have one or more shots on target.

I’m backing Leverkusen midfielder Robert Andrich to pick up a booking here. The 31-year-old has picked up nine bookings – seven yellow and two red – in 17 competitive appearances this season. That’s an average of more than one booking every two matches. He has made a total of 23 fouls in that time, giving him an average well over one per game. He also picked up one yellow in his sole appearance in the World Cup qualifying campaign with Germany. If he is coming up against equally physical players such as Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes, I think there’s a great chance he will pick up his tenth card of the season.
