Leeds United take on Sunderland at Elland Road as they look to end a streak of four matches without a win and move further away from the relegation zone.
Leeds are 15th in the league, six points above the drop zone after 28 matches. They have won seven, drawn 10 and lost 11 so far this season, and are eight points outside of the top half.
Sunderland have had a very mixed season, and find themselves in 12th position, six points ahead of their opponents in this one. It’s pretty good going for their first season back in the big time, and they’ll be happy to have won nine of their 28 league outings since returning to the Premier League.
Leeds United vs Sunderland Bet Builder Tip
Leeds vs Sunderland Predictions
- Leeds to win (10/11)
- Dominic Calvert-Lewin over 0.5 shots on target (33/100)
- Dan Ballard to be booked (29/10)
- Ilia Gruev to be booked (16/5)
Leeds to beat Sunderland
I fancy Leeds United to win this one at home. They have lost only three of their last 10 matches in all competitions, drawing four and winning three in that time. At Elland Road, they’ve only lost three in their last 10, and they were against three of the top four sides – Arsenal, City and Aston Villa. Sunderland haven’t won a league fixture away from home since a 1-2 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge back in October, and they’ve won only two of their least 10 matches in the league. I think Leeds will use their home advantage here and come out on top.
ALTERNATIVE BET – Leeds or draw @ 2/9
It’s much shorter odds, but the last time these two met it was 1-1 at the Stadium of Light, and it wouldn’t be hugely surprising to see the same result here. Taking this selection reduces the odds of this bet builder to 18/1 with Bet365.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin over 0.5 shots on target
Leeds striker Dominic-Calvert Lewin is the man I’m taking to have one or more shots on target in this one. In front of that raucous home crowd, I expect Leeds to be right up for it, and their frontman will get a decent level of service. He’s scored 10 goals in 25 league appearances this season, and has had 23 shots on target, with 53 shots overall. That gives him an average just shy of one shot on target per game, and I think there’s a good chance he will have at least one here.
BEST BET BUILDER TIP – Dan Ballard to be booked
Dan Ballard is fantastic odds to be carded at 29/10. The Sunderland centre-back has picked up four bookings in all competitions this season, with three in the league and one in the FA Cup. He has also been booked three times in the World Cup qualifying matches for Northern Ireland. In the league, he has made 22 fouls in 24 appearances, an average of almost one per game. It’ll be a tough game here. I expect him to make fouls, and he’s good odds for another booking.
Ilia Gruev to be booked
Ilia Gruev has been carded three times for Leeds this season, in his 19 league appearances. That already matches his total of three cards in the Championship last season, and I think he’s good odds to make it four for this campaign on Tuesday evening. In his 19 league outings, he has made 14 fouls, an average well above 0.5 per game. It’ll be a physical game, and as a defensive midfielder, he will be coming up against players like Granit Xhaka. Both of Bournemouth’s defensive midfielders were carded against Sunderland at the weekend, so there’s a good chance Gruev will be carded here.
