Chris Sutton has given his midweek predictions to the BBC Sport website and he is predicting another loss for Southampton on Wednesday when they host in-form Chelsea. The Saints are persisting with playing out from the back and they did pick up a good point against Brighton last time out, but too many mistakes are costing them and they already look adrift at the bottom of the table. Chelse fans will be delighted with the start to the season and their 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday was impressive. A top 4 push is certainly on the cards for them this season and matches like these are must win games.

Sutton told his BBC Sport column: “Southampton boss Russell Martin was tearing his hair out about their disallowed goal against Brighton on Friday. His side still picked up a really good, battling, point but they really needed all three. This is going to be a purists’ game of football, because both teams play an attractive style, but I can’t see past a Chelsea win here. It won’t be a stroll for Enzo Maresca’s side but they have so much quality in their team and they look so dangerous at the moment – up front, Nicolas Jackson is on fire. Jackson’s improvement this campaign compared to last is making me think maybe I should have had a second season at Stamford Bridge. There are a lot of Chelsea fans who tell me that… but most of them are unhappy I even had one season there. Sutton’s prediction: Southampton 0-2 Chelsea
