Mikel Arteta discusses Aaron Ramsdale’s situation at Arsenal

Ahead of Arsenal’s return from October’s international break this weekend, Mikel Arteta has discussed Aaron Ramsdale’s situation and what he expects from the England international going forward.

Arteta sympathises with Ramsdale’s situation

Although Arsenal might have continued on another Premier League romp since opening up the new campaign, it has been Ramsdale’s public demotion that has stollen plenty of the headlines around north London.

While the former Sheffield United shot-stopper might have cemented his spot as a real fan favourite around the Emirates since arriving in the capital two years ago, Ramsdale now finds himself sat firmly behind summer recruit David Raya in the race to be Arteta’s number-one choice.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Chelsea on Saturday evening, Arteta has spoken about Ramsdale’s recent situation.

“It’s not easy for any player who’s not playing as much as they’d like to.”

The only way to do it is work harder, to contribute to the team in a different way and when you get the opportunity… then do your best and try to help the team win.”

Ramsdale ’suffering and hurting’ after losing his place

Appearing to have been fully dethroned by Raya since the former Brentford star arrived in north London over the summer, Ramsdale has now featured in just one of Arsenal’s previous seven appearances across all competitions.

With growing speculation regarding his future at the Emirates, Ramsdale has spoken about his frustration at his current situation with the Gunners.

“We work professionally really well together. We push each other in training and there’s days where I come in and I’m down because of the situation and he picks me up. And for whatever reason, there might be a day where he’s down and even though I’m suffering and hurting for not playing, I have to stand up and be able to push him.”

Although Ramsdale might be openly ‘hurting’ following Arteta’s ruthless call to replace him between the sticks with Raya, the 25-year-old will likely remain on the bench when Arsenal arrive at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
