Manchester United are looking for a new manager after sacking Ruben Amorim today (Monday 5th January 2026), and the bookies have already starting offering odds on the next Manchester United manager following the news.
Darren Fletcher is set to take charge of the team until a new permanent manager is found, and the former United player could even keep the job until the end of the season.
bet365’s Steve Freeth said:
“It’s been a busy morning at Old Trafford with Ruben Amorim packing his bags, so who will be the Next Permanent Manager of Manchester United?
“Darren Fletcher is reportedly set to step as interim manager for the Burnley game at least. Fletch is a steady hand, a club legend and will get the respect of the players – he’s currently 5/1 to get it on a permanent basis.
“At this early stage, I made Enzo Maresca the favourite; he could very well be available after his departure from Chelsea and the Italian does have connections with the powers that be at Old Trafford.
“Of the other candidates, Oliver Glasner looks to be heading out of Crystal Palace at the end of the season, Gareth Southgate always gets linked, as do Mauricio Pochettino and former United coach Kieran McKenna.”

Who will be the next Manchester United Manager?
Ruben Amorim has gone, but who will be the next manager at Old Trafford? We asked our football betting expert, Andy Clark, to break down the next Man United manager odds market and make his predictions.
“If Darren Fletcher does get the job until the end of the season, it will likely mean that Oliver Glasner is the main contender. The Crystal Palace manager is out of contract in the summer, and he has publicly said in the past that he is ready for a ‘big’ job. The Manchester United roll would fit that brief perfectly, and it would also mean that United don’t have to pay a fee for his services to Crystal Palace. Given the money problems at Old Trafford, this looks like the perfect storm.
Enzo Maresca is the favourite for the job in the latest betting odds, but that is an appointment I cannot see happening. He left Chelsea in similar circumstances last week, and he would surely shy away from another role where he isn’t given full control. This looked to be his undoing at Chelsea, similar to Ruben Amorim, who publicly criticised the senior leaders in his recent press conference after the draw with Leeds.
Gareth Southgate is a name that was linked with the job before Amorim’s appointment, and the former England boss would probably fit the owners’ wishes of having a man in charge who would be happy to take the role of Head Coach. However, the fans are certainly not in favour of this appointment, and it could drive an even bigger wedge between the owners and the club hierarchy.
Of the other names in the next Man United manager odds, Cesc Fabregas is an interesting candidate at 14/1. He is making headlines with Como in Serie A, having led them to their best Serie A finish since 1987. It would be a risk to bring Fabregas this early in his managerial career, but it is probably a job the former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder couldn’t turn down.
Of the former Manchester United players on the list, Darren Fletcher is the obvious candidate to get the job full-time and he’s priced at 4/1. Michael Carrick was another name linked before Amorim got the job, but his stock has dropped since being sacked by Middlesbrough last season. Laurent Blanc is 25/1 with bet365 to be the next manager at Old Trafford, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is 20/1 to return to the club after his previous spell in charge. Ruud Van Nistelrooy is another name who was a short-term appointment, and he’s 25/1 to return permanently after a failed spell as Leicester manager.
Overall, Oliver Glasner looks the favourite to be the Manchester United manager next season, but for betting purposes, if Darren Fletcher is given the job until the end of the season you would have to check the terms of the market from the bookies you have placed the bet with. Some bookies will class the ‘next permanent manager’ if he manages 10 games. In this case, that would mean Darren Fletcher would be settled as the next permanent manager.
If the role given th Darren Fletcher is specifically an interim role until the end of the season, then my prediction would be that Oliver Glasner will be the Manchester United manager from next season onwards.”
