Roberto De Zerbi fires remarkable rant at Premier League referees

Brighton stadium

Forced to settle for a 1-1 stalemate against Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon, Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has issued a stunning onslaught to Premier League officials.

‘I don’t like 80% of referees in England’

Clearly left frustrated over the weekend as they eventually suffered a collapse against relegation scrapers Sheffield United, De Zerbi wanted to make his feelings abundantly clear.

While the former Sassuolo boss might have continued to receive a string of plaudits since arriving at the Amex last year, De Zerbi issued a remarkable onslaught to Premier League officials and publicly stated that he doesn’t ‘like 80% of referees in England”.

Although the Italian tactician might have a hefty fine coming down the pipeline, De Zerbi couldn’t hide his frustration following Sunday’s 1-1 draw on the south coast.

“I am honest and clear, I don’t like 80% of English referees. It’s not a new thing, I don’t like them.”

“The behaviour… I didn’t like their behaviour on the pitch.”

“England is the only country were, when there is VAR, you are not sure the decision is right. In other countries you have to be sure the referee is 100%.”

De Zerbi calling on calmness

Although Brighton might have enjoyed a history-making flurry last season as they secured a famous Europa League ticket, the Seagulls currently find themselves in the midst of an extended rut.

Missing out on what they had billed as a golden opportunity on Sunday afternoon, De Zerbi’s side have failed to claim a single win from any of their previous six Premier League appearances – a run that stems all the way back to September 24th.

While Brighton might sit in pole position to extend on their Europa League adventure this year, the Seagulls boss has briefly discussed his side’s domestic rut.

“An unlucky period.”

Heading into November’s international break with a sluggish 1-1 stalemate against Sheffield United, Brighton could face a real battle in their bid to claim another top-six finish this season.
