Monday Night Football is back, and we end the opening round of Championship fixtures with a huge clash at Vicarage Road where Watford host Sheffield United. This is another fixture which promises to feature two sides who will be in thick of the promotion shake-up come next May and we’ve picked a 4/1 bet builder tip for the 8pm kick-off. Relegated Watford have yet another new manager in Rob Edwards, following a successful spell in charge of now League One outfit Forest Green Rovers. Edwards has had a full pre-season behind him to get his team ready to challenge for promotion. Their summer has been a frantic one with a heap of departures such as Ben Foster, Moussa Sissoko and Josh King all leaving the club. They’ve once again looked abroad for their signings, and have brought in experience right back Mario Gaspar from Villarreal which is an excellent signing in my book. Sheffield United, my fancies for promotion this season, will look to put Play-Off heartache behind them and get off to a solid start themselves. Their summer hasn’t been quite as hectic as the home side, managing to keep the core of their squad and add some smart recruits. I think this game will be tight, but I do expect one side to emerge victorious and claim all three points.Watford vs Sheffield United Bet Builder Tip
- Watford to win
- Emmanuel Dennis to score anytime
MATCH RESULT – WATFORD TO WIN
Let’s be honest, Watford were absolutely dreadful last season and thoroughly deserved to be relegated after losing 27 of their 38 league games, winning just the six in the process. They are, however, very capable of bouncing straight back to the Premier League having done so in 20/21 where they finished second and gained automatic promotion after disappointment the year prior. Even though they’ve lost a lot of players, they do still have some experience and quality to compete in this division and I do expect them to win in front of their home crowd on Monday. I’m not expecting many goals, if history tells us anything then this will play out as a tight affair, but do see Watford edging this contest in their opener.PLAYER TO SCORE ANYTIME – EMMANUEL DENNIS (WATFORD)
I’m predicting Watford to win, so there will need to be a match winner for them and I think that will come in the form of Nigerian International Emmanuel Dennis. I’m actually surprised he’s still with Watford, having been linked to Premier League sides Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest. He may well leave before the end of the window, but as it currently stands he plays for The Hornets and will line up against The Blades on Monday evening. Dennis had a very encouraging first season with Watford, bagging himself 10 Premier League goals and six assists in a struggling side. He’s a very skilful player who caused problems for some top defences last year, so I fully expect him to cause Paul Heckingbottom’s United a headache on Monday. He may well want to force a move, so a positive display would only aid his causes in securing a transfer to the top flight this summer. I think he will score and help Watford bag all three points.
