Football pundits predictions

Burnley play Newcastle in one of tonight’s Premier League matches and we have checked through the expert pundits’ predictions for their opinions on the 7.30pm kick-off from Turf Moor.

We have put together the predictions of Chris Sutton, Paul Merson and Jones Knows, as well as giving our own thoughts on the match, and there is a correct score bet from each pundit.

Thatsagoal Prediction

Burnley picked up a point against Everton last time out, but they should have won the match, but failed to have a shot on target from 16 attempts. Now they welcome a Newcastle side who have struggled away from home and find themselves down in 14th place. It has been a really disappointing first half of the season for Eddie Howe’s side, and there are murmurs of pressure on the manager in the North East. Burnley need points, desperately, and it will be at home where they will pick them up. However, Newcastle have a few players capable of winning any match, and we’re backing them to get the three points here.

Paul Merson’s Prediction for Burnley vs Newcastle

Burnley were unlucky not to get the win against Everton. We keep talking about it, they are always competitive in games. Even when they lose, they never get hammered. It’s always the odd goal that beats them.

When I look at Burnley, I see the lack of a good finisher in that team. They created some chances against Everton, but no one was able to find the back of the net. I think that’s a massive problem.

Newcastle’s form on the road has been atrocious! I saw them against Manchester United last weekend. How can a team dominate so much and not score a goal? The second half was all Newcastle and they got nowhere near to scoring.

Eddie Howe will be the first to admit that Newcastle have not performed well this season. They’ve been hugely inconsistent. You could argue they played well to get something out of the game against United, but that’s just not enough.

Newcastle are in desperate need of a run. If they can get five, six wins on the bounce, they will fly up the table because it’s really tight among the mid-table teams. Backing them to win here.

Prediction: Burnley 0-2 Newcastle United

Chris Sutton’s Prediction for Burnley vs Newcastle

Burnley have drawn their past two games but they really need a win because they are a little adrift at the bottom, six points from safety.

Scott Parker is under a bit of pressure and a few of their fans have called up 606, saying they want a change. I still think they have been competitive, though, even if they have not beaten anyone since 26 October.

Newcastle could do with a victory as well, though. They are a strange side because they have been playing quite well but not really getting results. I keep backing them to win, so it is costing me too.

I am not going to stop, though. I am going for a rare away win for Eddie Howe’s side – and this time they will keep a clean sheet.

Sutton’s prediction: 0-1

Jones Knows Burnley vs Newcastle Prediction

Despite being odds-on favourites at Burnley, Newcastle’s recent road form suggests this won’t be pretty.

Under Eddie Howe, in a season when they are juggling Champions League football, their record away from home in games played when they’ve only had three days or less to prepare for a game is horrendous. From 18 fixtures they’ve won just three of those, drawing seven and losing eight. That includes defeats to Luton, Bournemouth, West Ham and Brentford.

Overall, they’ve managed just one away Premier League win in their last 12 – a run that’s been littered with moments of attacking promise but undermined by poor game management and defensive fragility.

The idea of Newcastle being a reliable bet on their travels doesn’t quite ring true given the numbers. At 3/1 Burnley are worth a swing on the draw no bet with Sky Bet.

SCORE PREDICTION: 2-1
