Premier League Predictions and Best Bets for Sunday 4th January

Last Updated on 04/01/2026 by Andy Clark

Following the Christmas and New Year flurry of Premier League fixtures, there is no let-up, and we have another full schedule of Premier League matches across Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th January.

Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the table to four points with a 4-1 win over Aston Villa – Manchester City had to settle for a point at Sunderland on New Year’s Day. There were also dropped points for Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool in the race for the top four. In fact, Everton were the only other winners in the top 12 of the Premier League, amongst a gameweek full of draws.

Onto this weekend’s matches, and we kick off with Aston Villa vs Nottingham Forest at 12.30pm on Saturday. There are only three matches following that, before six more games on Sunday, ahead of another round of midweek fixtures.

See our predictions and best betting tips for the Gameweek 20 matches below.

Everton vs Brentford Prediction

Everton go into today’s match ninth in the Premier League, and they have the chance to go as high as fifth with a win here. David Moyes is still without a lot of first-team players, but they put up a great performance to beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 last time out. At home, they have had a mixed bag of results this season, getting hammered by Tottenham and Newcastle, but picking up good wins against Nottm Forest, Fulham, Brighton and Crystal Palace. Brentford won their last away match at Wolves, but before that, they’d lost five away matches in a row. Keith Andrews’ side seems to do all their better work at home, and that’s why we think Everton will get the three points today.

SCORE PREDICTION – Everton 2-0 Brentford (11/1 with Betfred’s 2026 sign-up offer)

BEST BET – Michael Kayode to be carded (22/5 with BetMGM’s 2026 sign-up offer)

Tottenham vs Sunderland Prediction

I seem to say this every week on my Premier League predictions – but Tottenham are so unreliable from a betting perspective. They beat Crystal Palace in their last away match and then were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Brentford in midweek. They’ve only won two of their last 10 matches and go into this game against a Sunderland side who continue to defy the odds and held Manchester City to a 0-0 draw. Sunderland have struggled for goals of late though, netting just twice in their last five matches. Spurs have only won twice in 10 home matches all season, though, so whatever happens here, it is hard to bet on them to win.

SCORE PREDICTION – Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland (6/1 with bet365)

BEST BET – Under 2.5 goals (4/6 with Ladbrokes)

Fulham vs Liverpool Prediction

Fulham have been on a good run of form in recent weeks and climbed away from relegation trouble with wins over Burnley, West Ham and Nottingham Forest. They’ve won three of their last five at Craven Cottage, losing 5-4 to Man City and 2-1 to Crystal Palace. Liverpool were back to winning ways when picking up three wins in a row sbut that run was sandwiched between draws against Leeds. They’re still nowhere near their best, though, and teams like Fulham are not without a chance of upsetting the Champions. It will be a tough game for Liverpool, but they can just scrape a victory in their hunt for a top four place.

SCORE PREDICTION – FULHAM 1-2 LIVERPOOL (17/2 with bet365)

BEST BET – Both teams to score (8/11 with Betfred)

Newcastle vs Crystal Palace Prediction

Newcastle got a much-needed win last time out against Burnley, but they are still down in 14th place in the Premier League table. Eddie Howe is starting to feel the pressure, but the middle part of the table is so crowded that they are only three points off seventh-placed Sunderland. They have been good at home and are on a 10-match unbeaten run in all competitions, winning eight of those, and that points to another victory today. Crystal Palace are on a bad run, with no wins in six in all competitions and only a point from their last four Premier League matches. Brennan Johnson has been signed from Tottenham to give them some more firepower in the final third, but I’m backing a home win in this one.

SCORE PREDICTION – Newcastle 2-1 Crystal Palace (8/1 with bet365)

BEST BET – Newcastle to win (4/6 with BetGoodwin’s 2026 sign-up offer)
