ITV Racing Tips for Today

Day 3 of the Craven Meeting at Newmarket | Four races live on ITV4

We’re back at Newmarket once more on Thursday with the third and final day of the Craven Meeting and the ITV Racing cameras will once more be on hand to cover four races live from Flat HQ including the Group Three Craven Stakes.

2:25Betway Wood Ditton Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) Cl2 (3yo) 1mNORTH BEACH

3:35Betway Craven Stakes (Group 3) (Colts & Geldings) Cl1 (3yo) 1mHANKELOW

1:50 Newmarket – Betway Handicap Cl2 (3yo 0-100) 6f

Charlie Appleby saddles two in this race, and TREANMOR could prove the pick of his pair.

The Frankel gelding was an impressive winner over C&D on debut last May, beating Vlad by four lengths; that win earned him a crack at the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot, where he ran better than the bare result, having been hampered and losing his position.

He’s the choice of William Buick from the Godolphin duo, and he’s wintered in Dubai, where he’s run twice, most recently over one mile when finishing third to Title Role, who franked that form next time up with success in a Listed race.

He should be sharp enough to do himself justice here, returning from 78 days off and making his handicap debut off a 93 rating, which might prove lenient. There should be little to fear by dropping him back to sprinting, and with no shortage of pace in this contest, his proven stamina for further and past form over the course could provide an advantage late on.

2:25 Newmarket – Betway Wood Ditton Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) Cl2 (3yo) 1m

A race full of debutants and a chance is taken on NORTH BEACH for trainer Andrew Balding, who is in form and won the corresponding contest twelve months ago.

The New Bay colt was an expensive purchase, but he is related to some decent types and could prove a smart sort himself in time.

This is a race for watching rather than having any real active betting interest, but his top trainer gets his fair share of debutant winners, and this could be another in what is likely to be an informative contest.

3:00 Newmarket – Zyn Abernant Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 6f

JASOUR hasn’t won since taking the Pavilion Stakes at Ascot back in May 2024, but the Havana Grey entire has largely contested at Group One level ever since and Clive Cox’s charge can end his winless streak now.

The ground was probably soft enough for him when he made a pleasing reappearance in the Listed Cammidge Trophy at Doncaster last month, beaten just one length by reopposing Aramram, where he travelled well into the race but couldn’t sustain his effort and perhaps just got bogged down in the soft ground.

That run will have him spot on, and he’ll be much more appreciative of this quicker surface as he bids to end his barren run. He can go well here, and this is an easier grade than he’s used to competing in, so it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he were to make his presence felt in this.

3:35 Newmarket – Betway Craven Stakes (Group 3) (Colts & Geldings) Cl1 (3yo) 1m

HANKELOW looked like a horse that had a very bright future ahead of him during his juvenile season, where he won twice, including over C&D when taking the Autumn Stakes with a defeat of Al Zanati, and Karl Burke’s charge can make a winning return to action.

The Night Of Thunder colt was a debut winner at York last June prior to going close in Listed company back from a break at Doncaster, beaten a nose by Avicenna. Making all here on his last start, he ran out a ready winner and the runner-up won a Group Three in France next time, while the fourth wasn’t disgraced in a French Grade One either subsequently so the form looks pretty decent.

There’s every possibility he has even more to offer this campaign, and with proven C&D form in the book on similar conditions, he could be primed to run a big race if fully fit ahead of his reappearance for a yard which has been in decent fettle already this term.
