Steve Clarke’s Scotland side head into their second friendly in four days as they warm up for the World Cup in June. This time, they head to Merseyside to take on the Ivory Coast at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, home of Everton.
The Scots come into this one off the back of a 0-1 defeat at home to Japan on Saturday, with a second-half goal seeing out a fairly dull affair at Hampden Park. The Tartan Army will be hopeful of a good performance here, as they prepare for their first World Cup since 1998.
Ivory Coast sailed through their World Cup qualifying group with no defeats and have proved to be a very good side. They were quarter finalists in the Africa Cup of Nations, losing narrowly to Egypt at that stage of the competition. This will be a tough test for Scotland.
Key Stats — Scotland vs Ivory Coast

Steve Clarke’s side have won five of their last 10 matches, but the Japan defeat will have been a sobering reminder of the step up in quality that awaits them at the World Cup. Scotland are strongest through midfield — particularly through Scott McTominay — and will need that creative outlet to function if they are to take anything from this one against an Ivory Coast side that sailed through qualifying unbeaten.
Ivory Coast Form and Match Preview
Ivory Coast sailed through their World Cup qualifying group with no defeats and have proved to be a very good side. They were quarter finalists in the Africa Cup of Nations, losing narrowly to Egypt at that stage of the competition. This will be a tough test for Scotland.
Emerse Fae’s side arrive in Merseyside with genuine World Cup ambitions and a squad packed with Premier League quality. Winning seven of their last 10 matches underlines their consistency, and with Amad Diallo in the kind of club form he has shown at Manchester United this season, they carry a significant attacking threat. Scotland will need to be at their best to keep this one competitive.
Scotland vs Ivory Coast Betting Tips
Best Bet Builder Tip — Ivory Coast to Win — 23/20
Ivory Coast are a very good side, and features players such as Amad Diallo, Ibrahim Sangare and Nicolas Pepe. I think they’ll win this one against a Scotland side who failed to impress massively last time out against Japan. Ivory Coast have won seven of its last 10 matches, drawing one and losing two. Scotland have won five of their last 10 matches, dating back to March 2025. We will see both squads rotated here in this friendly fixture, but I think Ivory Coast will have marginally more quality in this one, although I expect it to be a close game.
Both Teams to Score — 10/11
As I mentioned, I expect this to be a close one, and I think both teams will score. Scotland failed to score last time out, and they’ll be keen to bag a couple of goals before the end of this international break. They are strongest in midfield, and I would think any goals scored would come from a player in the middle. Both teams have scored in four of Scotland’s last five matches. Ivory Coast have scored in nine of their last 10, with both teams scoring on three occasions. These are two good teams, and I think there will be plenty of chances, and a good chance they’ll both score.
Scott McTominay Over 0.5 Shots on Target — 4/7
Scott McTominay is Scotland’s star man, and I think he will have at least one shot on target in this one. The midfielder has scored 11 goals for Napoli in all competitions this season, with 26 shots on target in 25 Serie A appearances, an average of more than one per game, which is great for a midfielder. Last time out against Japan, McTominay had a total of four shots, with two on target. Throughout World Cup qualifying, he scored two in six, with six shots on target. I think there’s a great chance he will have more than one shot on target here.
Alternative Bet — Scott McTominay to Score (3/1)
Odds of 3/1 is fantastic for McTominay to score. He’s the main man for Scotland a lot of the time, and plays with confidence every time he pulls on his country’s shirt. Taking him to score takes this bet builder to odds of 25/1 with bet365.
Amad Diallo Over 0.5 Shots on Target — 4/7
Manchester United’s Amad Diallo is the second player I’m backing for a shot on target in this friendly match. The 23-year-old has bagged two goals in his 25 Premier League appearances for United this season, with 44 shots, 17 of which have been on target. He scored one in three in World Cup qualifying. I think both sides will have a good number of chances on Tuesday, and Diallo will cause Scotland some problems. He’s good odds to have a minimum of one shot on target.
