Chelsea travel to Italy to face Serie A side Atalanta in the sixth match of this Champions League campaign. Both sides have an identical record in the competition so far, with three wins, one draw and one defeat in the opening five matches. The Blues have a superior goal difference, though, and are in seventh place, three above Atalanta in tenth.
Atalanta are having a difficult season in Serie A. After 14 matches, they find themselves in 12th, with three wins, seven draws and four defeats. They’re eight points outside the top six in the league.
Chelsea are having a far better time of it. Enzo Maresca’s side are fifth in the Premier League and six points off second-place Man City. They have won seven, drawn four and lost four in the league.

With these two neck and neck in the Champions League, it’s shaping up to be a close encounter on Tuesday evening. However, I’m backing Chelsea to pick up all three points on the road. The Blues haven’t won in their last three league matches, with two draws and one defeat, but were unbeaten in the six games previous to that, and have lost only two of their last 10 in all competitions. In the Champions League, they thrashed Barcelona 3-0 last time out, following a 2-2 draw with Qarabag and a 5-1 thumping of Ajax. Atalanta come into this one off the back of a 3-1 defeat away to Verona in Serie A, and I think they’ll taste defeat again here.
Joao Pedro over 0.5 shots on target (2/5)
Joao Pedro is an excellent attacking outlet for Chelsea. He has scored four and assisted three in his 15 Premier League appearances so far for the Blues, having 23 shots in the process, 11 of which have been on target. That gives him an average not far shy of one shot on target per game. He’s yet to have the same impact in the Champions League, with zero shots on target in three matches played. However, I think Chelsea will create a lot of chances here and he’s good odds to register his first shot on target in this competition.

As I said, Chelsea will create a lot of chances here, and at 13/5, Joao Pedro is good odds to get his first Champions League goal of the season.
Ademola Lookman over 0.5 shots on target (4/6)
I’m also backing Atalanta striker Ademola Lookman to have at least one shot on target. The Nigerian frontman has bagged two goals in 10 Serie A matches so far this season, with a further one in four in the Champions League. In the league, he has had 21 shots, seven of which have been on target, giving him an average of over 0.5 shots on target per game. He has had two shots on target in four Champions League matches, so an average of 0.5 per game in this competition. I think they’ll create enough chances here, as they have been decent in the Champions League, and he’s good odds to have at least one shot on target.
Marten de Roon to be carded (17/10)
The player I’m taking to be booked is Atalanta’s Marten de Roon. The defensive midfielder has already been carded on seven occasions this season – five times in 11 Serie A matches and twice in five Champions League outings. In his 17 matches in all competitions, he has made a total of 18 fouls, so an average of more than one per game. He will be in for a tough game here against a strong Chelsea midfield, and I think there’s a great chance of him being carded here.
