Man City vs Liverpool – FA Cup Quarter Final

It’s the return of club football this weekend, and it’s FA Cup action as we head into the quarter-final stage of the competition. The early kick-off sees Man City host Liverpool at the Etihad at 12.45pm.

Man City have had a good season and still have an outside chance of running Arsenal all the way for the Premier League title. They’re currently nine points behind the league leaders with a game in hand, and have won 18 of their 30 league matches so far this season.

Liverpool haven’t had the season they would’ve hoped for under Arne Slot after winning the league last season. They’re fifth in the league, five points behind Aston Villa, who occupy fourth position, and just one ahead of Chelsea in sixth.

Key Stats — Manchester City vs Liverpool

  • Man City have won their last two meetings with Liverpool and are second in the Premier League with 60 goals scored this season
  • Liverpool have scored in nine of their last 10 matches in all competitions, as have Man City
  • Both teams have scored in six of the last 10 meetings between these two sides
  • Bernardo Silva has been booked 15 times in all competitions this season — nine in the Premier League, four in the Champions League and one in the Carabao Cup — making 48 fouls in 42 competitive appearances
  • Ibrahima Konate has been booked seven times in all competitions this season, including six in the Premier League, and averages more than one foul per game
  • Man City defeated Exeter City 10-1 and Salford City 2-0 in their previous FA Cup rounds this season

Manchester City Form and Match Preview

Man City have had a good season and still have an outside chance of running Arsenal all the way for the Premier League title. They’re currently nine points behind the league leaders with a game in hand, and have won 18 of their 30 league matches so far this season.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won six of their last 10 in all competitions, and home advantage at the Etihad — one of the most intimidating venues in English football — gives them a significant edge in this tie. Having defeated Liverpool in their last two meetings, the momentum in this fixture is firmly with City, and with a World Cup summer ahead and a semi-final place at stake, Guardiola will be treating this as a priority.

Liverpool Form and Match Preview

Liverpool haven’t had the season they would’ve hoped for under Arne Slot after winning the league last season. They’re fifth in the league, five points behind Aston Villa who occupy fourth position, and just one ahead of Chelsea in sixth.

Despite the domestic disappointment, Liverpool arrive at the Etihad having scored in nine of their last 10 matches — a reminder that their attacking quality remains formidable even in an inconsistent season. Arne Slot will view this FA Cup quarter-final as an opportunity to salvage something meaningful from the campaign, and Liverpool are never easy opposition regardless of their league position. This should be a genuinely competitive tie.

Manchester City vs Liverpool Betting Tips

Best Bet Builder Tip — Man City to Win — 4/5

I think Man City will come out on top in this one at home, although I do think it’ll be a very close encounter. Pep Guardiola’s side have won six of their last 10 in all competitions, with two defeats against Real Madrid in the Champions League, and draws with Forest and West Ham in the league. In the FA Cup so far, they’ve defeated Exeter City 10-1, and Salford City 2-0. Liverpool have also won six of their last 10, drawing against Spurs and losing to Brighton, Galatasaray and Wolves. This is a big game on Saturday, with a place in the semi-final up for grabs, and as City have defeated Liverpool on the last two occasions, I think they’ll win this one.

Both Teams to Score — 11/20

As I expect it to be close, I think both teams will score. Both teams have scored in six of the last 10 meetings between these two, and with the importance of this one, they’ll both be at it from the off. Liverpool have scored in nine of their last 10 matches in all competitions, and City have scored in nine of their last 10 as well. Pep Guardiola’s side are the second highest scorers in the Premier League this season, with 60 goals scored, and Liverpool have scored 10 fewer with 50. I think both teams to score is a good bet in this one.

Bernardo Silva to Be Booked — 10/3

Bernardo Silva has had his fair share of bookings this season, and he’s the first of two players I’m backing for a card this weekend. The midfielder has picked up 15 cards in all competitions this season, with nine in the Premier League, four in the Champions League and one in the Carabao Cup. He was also red-carded once in the Champions League. He has made a total of 48 fouls in 42 competitive matches this season, and I think he will make a couple here with that average. He’s good odds for a card at 10/3.

Alternative Bet — Bernardo Silva Over 2.5 Tackles (10/3)

There’s some value in taking Bernardo Silva to make over 2.5 tackles here, rather than taking him for a booking. At the same odds of 10/3, this selection leaves the odds of this bet builder at 35/1. He averages well over one tackle per game, and I think this one will be a real midfield battle. I think this is a strong alternative bet at the same odds.

Ibrahima Konate to Be Booked — 3/1

The second player I think he’s good odds to be booked is Ibrahim Konate. In fact, at 3/1, the Liverpool defender is fantastic odds for a card — he has been booked seven times in all competitions this season, with six in the Premier League and one in the Community Shield. He averages more than one foul per game across all competitions, and with City’s quality, he’s likely to make one or two here. I think there’s a good chance of him being carded for an eighth time this season.
